About the job

Requirements
  • A PhD in chemical biology, chemistry, or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience and demonstrated people leadership.
  • Deep, hands-on experience in chemical probe design, including selective inhibitors, proximity approaches such as molecular glue degraders or PROTACs, and covalent or activity-based/photoaffinity chemistry.
  • A proven ability to deconvolute phenotypic hits to mechanism through chemoproteomics or equivalent target identification methods.
  • Experience building and scaling a chemical biology function, including hiring, mentoring, and developing multiple scientists or managers.
  • Experience setting multi-year technical strategy, such as chemical library architecture or probe portfolio direction, rather than executing a single program's plan.
  • Ability to translate open biological questions into executable chemistry strategy without a predefined target in a high-ambiguity environment.
  • Executive-level communication ability to represent chemical biology strategy to C-suite and board audiences and influence cross-functional senior leaders.
  • Prior experience managing, mentoring, or leading chemists and cross-functional project teams, including internal and external contract research organization team management.
Responsibilities
  • Set chemical biology strategy based on the multiomics platform, linking proprietary biology maps to targets using modern chemical biology methods and establishing appropriate drug modalities alongside traditional small-molecule work.
  • Build, manage, and mentor a team of multiomics chemists, fostering a coaching-driven environment for growth.
  • Establish and manage internal and external chemistry teams and networks to execute screening, synthesis, and validation campaigns.
  • Partner with biology, target identification teams, structural biology, and computational drug design to align chemical biology strategy with target validation and platform capabilities.
  • Define and align program strategy and go/no-go criteria with senior leadership, taking into account the competitive landscape and portfolio priorities.
  • Represent the team in portfolio reviews and governance meetings, and lead technical discussions on molecular design with external collaborators and partners.
  • Contribute to intellectual property strategy and business development activities related to novel chemical matter and new modalities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience with phenomics, high-content imaging such as Cell Painting, or other image-based screening platforms.
  • Familiarity with how AI- or machine-learning-derived phenotypic signatures inform compound prioritization or target nomination.
  • External scientific visibility through publications, conference leadership, or partner- or business-development-facing technical credibility.
  • Experience contributing to intellectual property strategy or licensing diligence involving novel chemical matter.

About the company

Recursion accelerates drug discovery by combining hardware, software, and large biological data to build data-driven workflows. It runs thousands of wet-lab experiments weekly to profile genes and compounds across many cell types, feeding results into its high-power BioHive 1 computer to uncover billions of gene–compound relationships. This integration of vast datasets, high-throughput experiments, and specialized computing enables rapid generation of actionable drug candidates, set within a model that emphasizes strategic partnerships with pharma companies, research institutions, and healthcare providers. The goal is to decode biology at scale and translate discoveries into new medicines that improve patient lives through collaboration and commercialization.

Recursion raises $200M, reports 47% polyp reduction in FAP trial and Sanofi option

Recursion (NASDAQ: RXRX) announced a $200 million underwritten offering of common stock. Investors include Janus Henderson Investors, Invus, Longaeva Partners, ARK Invest, and Driehaus Capital Management. The company expects its cash to last into 2029. The company also updated trial data for REC-4881 in familial adenomatous polyposis. After 12 weeks of treatment, patients had a 47% median reduction in polyp burden, and 85% stayed below baseline 12 weeks after stopping. It aims to start a registrational trial in the second half of 2027, pending talks with the FDA. Sanofi optioned the first development candidate from its collaboration with Recursion, triggering a $10 million milestone payment. Total upfront and milestone payments now stand at $144 million.

Recursion Pharmaceuticals burns through cash with $557M reserves lasting until early 2028

Recursion Pharmaceuticals held $557 million in cash at the end of Q2 2026, whilst operations consumed about $0.4 billion over the past twelve months. The biotech company has lowered its 2026 cash spending forecast to $375 million, nearly 40% below 2024 levels, attributing the reduction to greater efficiency. Revenue fell 61.8% year-on-year in the latest quarter and covers roughly a tenth of the company's $0.5 billion operating loss. Management expects cash reserves to last through early 2028. The stock trades at 42.2 times sales, compared to 3.1 for the S&P 500, and has fallen 23% over the past twelve months. A collaboration with Roche-Genentech has generated over $260 million in upfront and milestone payments.

Recursion Pharmaceuticals shares fall 4.2% as Q2 revenue drops 60% to $7.67M

Recursion Pharmaceuticals reported a second-quarter loss of 25 cents per share, worse than the estimated 23-cent loss. This compares to a 41-cent loss in the year-ago quarter. Total revenues fell 60% year-over-year to $7.67 million, missing the $14 million estimate. The decline stemmed from lower collaboration revenues with Roche and Genentech following completion of certain project phases. Research and development expenses decreased 30% to $89.6 million, reflecting lower platform costs and improved efficiency. General and administrative expenses fell 11% to $41.5 million. The company held $556.8 million in cash as of 30 June, down from $665.2 million at quarter-end March. Recursion expects current cash reserves to fund operations into early 2028. Shares dropped 4.2% on Wednesday following the results.

Recursion cuts 2026 cash guidance to $375M, targeting FAP data in November

Recursion Pharmaceuticals reported Q2 2026 results, highlighting its AI-driven drug discovery platform's progress. The company lowered full-year 2026 cash operating expense guidance to $375 million, nearly 40% below 2024 levels. Recursion's collaboration with Roche-Genentech identified a previously unexplored neuroscience target, triggering part of $260 million in milestone payments. The platform can move from target to candidate in 1.5 years using approximately 330 compounds, versus industry benchmarks of 4 years and 2,500 compounds. The company holds approximately $557 million in cash, providing runway through early 2028. Phase II data for REC-4881 in FAP will be presented in November, with Phase I trial for REC-7735 expected later this year. Recursion appointed a new Chief AI Officer and Head of Drug Design to strengthen its AI capabilities.

Recursion Pharmaceuticals revenue drops to $7.67M but loss narrows as Genentech advances neuroscience programme

Recursion Pharmaceuticals reported mixed Q2 2026 results, with revenue falling to $7.67 million from $19.22 million year-over-year, though its net loss narrowed to $131.01 million. Loss per share improved to $0.25. The AI-driven drug discovery company announced that Genentech has advanced a neuroscience target into joint early discovery. Recursion also provided updates on REC-4881 Phase 2 data and the upcoming REC-7735 clinical trial. The company's cash runway extends through Q4 2027. Analysts had previously modelled revenue declining approximately 29.5% annually. Despite the revenue drop, shares rose 11.4% following the results and partnership milestone announcement. The stock's advance suggests investors focused on the Genentech collaboration progress rather than the quarterly revenue decline.
