New David Lloyd leisure club in Nantwich set for planning board. Detailed plans for the UK's first enhanced David Lloyd Leisure wellness club to be built in Nantwich are set to go before the council next month. The leisure firm's plans for land off Newcastle Road, close to the Crewe Vagrants sports and social club, are set tp go before Cheshire East's Strategic Planning Board on Wednesday September 16th. If approved, a new "flagship facility" for David Lloyd Leisure would be built which they say would be the UK's first proposed enhanced David Lloyd Clubs wellness Club. Nantwich News revealed in June 2025 how the plans include swimming, fitness and wellness facilities, a sporting hub alongside the existing facilities next door, and would create up to 100 permanent jobs as well as more than 60 during construction. The company says it would include EV charging and an energy-efficient design in line with a carbon net zero commitment. They say several amendments were made following a public consultation on their original plans back in 2024. These included adding a new footpath and cycleway links with the Crewe Vagrants site next door to ensure easy pedestrian and cycling access. Now the company is urging members of the public in Nantwich to air their views on the plans before the plans go to the council planning board in September. A David Lloyd spokesperson said: "Since the start of this project, Nantwich News has listened to local people. "At its public consultation, the concern raised most often was traffic and highways. "Nantwich News took those comments seriously and worked through them with its transport specialists and Cheshire East Council. "Following that work, the council's highways authority has confirmed it has no objection to its proposals. "We need your help. If you want to see this club delivered in Nantwich, the council needs to hear it from you - not just from us." If the plans go ahead, construction is likely to start in 2027 and the club could be opened the following year. Opening date for Kent town's first Taco Bell revealed as new KFC set to launch next door. Published: 08:31, 23 August 2026 * | * | * | * | The opening date for a town's first Taco Bell has been revealed - with a new KFC restaurant also on the verge of completion next door. The fast food outlets are to become the latest arrivals at Ashford's Waterbrook Park in Sevington. Now, five months on, the exteriors have been completed as the chains finalise seating and the decor. A new access road has been created directly opposite Aldi specifically for the two retailers, which has also been added alongside parking spaces for both stores. Taco Bell was originally meant to open earlier this summer, but bosses confirmed delays relating to supplier timelines pushed this back. But KentOnline can now reveal it is expected to open next month. A statement said: "The new Taco Bell restaurant in Ashford is progressing well and is nearing completion. "We're currently targeting an opening date of September 29, although this remains subject to final approvals and may change. "Once open, residents can expect Taco Bell's full menu of Mexican-inspired favourites, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, Crunchwraps and more, available for dine-in, takeaway, and delivery." Founded in 1962, the American brand has five other branches in Kent. Meanwhile, KFC has remained tight-lipped on when its restaurant will launch. However, KentOnline can reveal "it is aiming to open around the same time", according to landowners GSE. Development director, Luke Mullaney, said: "Both brands have been exceptional partners throughout the entire process, and we are delighted to add these drive-thru restaurants to the diverse portfolio of construction projects carried out under the GSE brand. "We have absolutely no doubt the people of Ashford and the surrounding areas will be as excited as we are by the imminent opening dates." Once trading, it will become Ashford's third KFC, alongside others at Eureka Park and in Beaver Road. Work on both restaurants has been in the pipeline since KFC received planning approval from Ashford Borough Council (ABC) in 2021. Meanwhile, Taco Bell was given the nod for its first branch in the town in 2024. Waterbrook Park is also set to see the arrival of a new David Lloyd health club on land opposite Aldi, filling a spot previously earmarked for an Amazon warehouse. The facility is due to feature three tennis courts and four swimming pools, creating 100 jobs. But KentOnline has already revealed how it is now not expected to open until at least 2027 due to a planning dispute involving landowner GSE, ABC, and Kent County Council. Aldi opened its second Ashford supermarket on Waterbrook Park in October. More Stories

David Lloyd Clubs rolling out new women's health program featuring Power Plate. July 16, 2026 by Jackie Wicks David Lloyd Clubs is stepping up its commitment to women's health as it continues to explore what fit-for-purpose really looks like for the female population. What does it mean to truly support your members? This is a question that's currently being asked at David Lloyd Clubs, where a vision and ambition to serve every individual across every life stage is driving fresh thinking across the breadth of its offering. A growing focus on women's health is a pivotal part of this agenda - something the industry has historically fallen short in understanding or delivering, says Michelle Dand, David Lloyd Clubs' head of product and programming. But while this industry-wide criticism might once have applied to David Lloyd Clubs, under Dand's guidance things are changing. Across its estate, every club now has a dedicated female health lead, trained to deliver regular seminars on topics ranging from pelvic health and breast support to puberty, menstrual cycle training, menopause and injury resilience. These sessions are designed not only to inform and signpost onwards, but to connect: creating safe spaces where members can come together with others like them, sharing experiences that have historically gone unspoken. Supporting this is a broader push on team education. Recognising that standard industry qualifications offer limited insight into female physiology, David Lloyd Clubs has developed comprehensive internal training across a broad range of female health topics. This includes trailblazing modules on menopause: a deeper, applied level for fitness professionals that focuses on training adaptation, but also a foundational level designed to enhance understanding among all team members. A focus on bone health Programming is evolving in parallel. New concepts such as BATTLEBOX & Buggies and SPIRIT Pre- and Post are designed to support women through and beyond pregnancy, while in-app communities and educational content aim to extend that support beyond the gym floor. There's also an exciting new pilot initiative, launched in partnership with Performance Health Systems, that combines Screen My Bones with Power Plate for a 'screen to solution' bone health programme. For Dand, the preventative aspect is key: "Bone health is something we don't talk about enough, yet it underpins everything as we age. By the time issues are picked up through traditional routes, it can often be too late. We want to provide our members with insight much earlier so they have a chance to act." Currently live in four clubs, the pilot introduces advanced bone health screening via Screen My Bones' REMS technology. The solution then lies in Power Plate, whose whole-body vibration (WBV) technology is proven to stimulate bone formation and positively impact bone density. To ensure its team are fully trained in the science and bone health application of WBV, David Lloyd Clubs has written a skeletal health training module that includes the role of vibration training, upskilling its PTs and wider teams on Power Plate and its benefits for a wide range of different users. There has also been a reinvestment in Power Plate, with the latest pro8 model installed in the pilot clubs, plus three further locations. "Power Plate is one of those pieces of equipment that can support so many different life stages and needs, from skeletal health and active ageing to rehabilitation, performance and recovery," says Dand. "But like anything, it's only as effective as the knowledge behind it. That's why the training piece is so important." A lifelong vision David Lloyd Clubs' bone health initiative is deliberately inclusive: although introduced as part of the women's health initiative, reflecting the higher risk of issues among peri- and post-menopausal women, it is open - and applicable - to all members. It is early days for the pilot, with rollout decisions to be guided by member uptake and engagement. Yet for Dand, success is defined less by immediate scale and more by long-term impact. "Yes, there's a commercial lens - we have to make these things work - but the vision is bigger than that," she explains. "Fundamentally, it's about adding value for its members, making sure Power Plate group has the products, the education and the environment to support every member at every stage of their life. "If we can help people understand their bodies better, train more effectively and stay healthier for longer, that's a win." "It's incredibly exciting to see David Lloyd Clubs leading from the front, launching a joined-up MSK model that combines assessment, education and targeted training," says Iain Murray, managing director UK & Ireland for Performance Health Systems. "This initiative has the potential to genuinely change lives, particularly in the context of women's health."
