Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant program and hold a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued by the Washington State Department of Health, or possess an interim Medical Assistant license and pass the examination within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Must have a Certificate of Completion from a Medical Assistant program.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 90 days of the hire date and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
  • Must be able to identify patient clinical needs according to diagnosis and follow clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Must be able to read and write proficiently in English.
  • Must demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to calculate medical dosages, including milligrams to milliliters.
  • Must be able to analyze and present data for reports.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Must learn and become proficient in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, EKG monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • Must become fully proficient with Sea Mar's patient management and electronic health record systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Must adhere to employee health screening requirements and annual influenza vaccination requirements, subject to approved medical or religious exemptions.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential physical duties, including walking, standing, using hands, reaching, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work with potential exposure to communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all clinical quality measures and patient outcomes in the electronic health record, including reviewing patient records and addressing care gaps.
  • Coordinate and process patient referrals for internal and external services in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist providers in serving an average of 18 to 21 patients per day, depending on provider type.
  • Prepare for and participate in care team huddles by collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and X-ray reports, medication confirmations, and other information needed for patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document all relevant patient information, care provided, and processes engaged in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to established protocols.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medications ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration according to protocol and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization lists.
  • Maintain medication storage, dispensing, maintenance, and waste logs in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Perform and document quality controls and report noncompliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Use aseptic technique and report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with streamlining and implementing pod and patient-flow systems.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals, including specialty care and care coordination, and provide required laboratory results and electronic health record notes to specialist offices.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Use the AIDET model to provide customer service and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Resolve clinical phone calls referred to the Medical Assistant within one business day.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the direct supervisor, and patients.
  • Manage biohazardous waste and follow infection-control and standard-precaution procedures.
  • Assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Use nursing functions in the electronic health record and practice-management applications.
  • Follow applicable regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Clinical Quality Measures, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality-improvement, and contractual requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency as a medical scribe when assigned that function.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours of service and complete quality-care gaps for all patients treated.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
