Requirements
  • Three years of experience in the field of workers’ compensation insurance is required.
  • Ability to manage claims through the litigation process.
  • Experience with workers’ compensation claims practices and laws, court procedures, precedents, and state statutes.
  • Ability to use logic and sound reasoning to identify alternative solutions for problem-solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively and productively.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong, effective internal and external relationships.

  • Must be eligible to obtain additional workers’ compensation adjuster licenses as required.
  • Must pass assigned claims adjuster license examinations within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and establish action plans to manage medical and indemnity benefits associated with injury and occupational disease claims through the most cost-effective conclusion.
  • Decide claim outcomes by applying established policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Gather facts by interviewing all involved parties and considering all claim elements before issuing decisions.
  • Take recorded statements when necessary.
  • Determine eligibility for indemnity and medical benefits after salary information and medical treatment plans have been secured and processed within designated authority levels.
  • Use proactive reserving practices to maintain adequate case reserves reflecting the probable ultimate outcome throughout the life of each claim.
  • Identify, investigate, and pursue subrogation recoveries when possible.
  • Consult with claim directors, return-to-work specialists, nurse case managers, medical professionals, and legal professionals regarding treatment, litigation, and rehabilitation plans.
  • Collaborate with injured workers, employers, outside counsel, and health and rehabilitation professionals to manage claim costs and promote quality medical care.
  • Collaborate with injured workers, employers, return-to-work specialists, and medical providers to facilitate safe and timely return to work.
  • Manage claim litigation and expenses by collaborating with and directing panel counsel throughout the life of the claim.
  • Analyze reports from physicians, attorneys, and vocational rehabilitation experts to evaluate and adjust claim strategies.
  • Evaluate and negotiate claim settlements using human-relations skills and technical knowledge.
  • Present and summarize claim details at internal team staffing, participate in discussions, and provide guidance as needed.
  • Consult with the assigned claim director when a loss becomes significantly complex or presents increasing financial exposure.
  • Follow established claims best practices related to medical management, litigation, fraud and abuse, and recovery.
  • Use available resources independently to prioritize, organize, and complete work in a timely manner while meeting jurisdictional requirements, timeframes, and internal metrics.
  • Develop presentations for special projects such as internal and external meetings and conferences.
  • Participate with claim directors, regional vice presidents, and other claims staff in claim reviews and onboardings for policyholders and agents.
  • Collaborate proactively with policyholders to align objectives and foster continuous improvement.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One valid workers’ compensation adjuster license.
  • Multiple-state claims management experience.
  • Workers’ compensation claims experience in Pennsylvania.
  • Experience with New Jersey workers’ compensation claims.
  • Knowledge of Encova Best Practices guidelines and ability to meet internal quality standards for internal candidates.

Encova Insurance Appoints Ramu Lingala As Chief Information Officer

Encova Insurance has named Ramu Lingala as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, succeeding longtime CIO Tony Laska, who will retire at the end of this year.Lingala officially assumed the role on May 1 after joining the company in February to become familiar with its operations and culture.Laska, who has held key leadership roles at BrickStreet, Motorists, and Encova, will remain with the company in an advisory capacity through the end of 2025.“I want to congratulate Tony on a successful career and thank him for his unmatched contributions to BrickStreet, Motorists and now Encova,” said Encova President and CEO TJ Obrokta Jr. “I still remember recruiting him many years ago and the remarkable impact he had during the early years of BrickStreet.
