Uber Freight hires Amazon and Convoy veteran as CPO to boost AI-driven logistics platform

Uber Freight has appointed Amir Pelleg as chief product officer to advance its AI-driven transportation management platform. Pelleg brings over 25 years of experience leading product, engineering and operations teams at companies including Amazon, Convoy and Dandy. The appointment reflects Uber Freight's focus on technology that helps customers make faster decisions and reduce supply chain complexity. Pelleg said AI can connect fragmented data across disconnected systems, enabling more proactive network management. He emphasised that effective products must address actual customer problems rather than simply deploy new technology. Pelleg cited fragmentation as a major obstacle facing modern supply chains, with data often siloed across different systems. San Francisco-based Uber Technologies operates three platforms: Uber ride-hailing, Uber Freight logistics, and Uber Eats delivery services.

Uber Freight revenue rises $47M year-on-year as operating loss narrows to $30M

Uber Freight reported its first year-on-year revenue increase in two years, rising to $1.34 billion from $1.26 billion in the first quarter. The digital broker recorded an operating loss of $30 million for the quarter. This marks the first time Uber reported its three segments—Mobility, Delivery and Freight—on an operating income basis rather than EBITDA. Previous quarters showed operating losses of $26 million, $40 million and $18 million for the second, third and fourth quarters of 2024, respectively. CEO Rebecca Tinucci attributed the revenue growth to strong enterprise demand and managed transportation performance, noting the company maintained service levels whilst competitors pulled back during market tightening. Uber Freight has only achieved positive EBITDA twice since inception, both in 2022.
