Requirements
  • The candidate has around ten years of professional experience and has developed responsibility and the ability to shape outcomes.
  • Experience in the railway environment is required, ideally including operational understanding of dispatching and planning.
  • The candidate has leadership experience in operational functions and experience building teams and structures.
  • The candidate is fluent in German at a business negotiation level.
Responsibilities
  • Own operations planning, production concepts, and shift and staffing plans for reliable and safe operations.
  • Lead the control center and oversee ongoing operations, disruption and deviation management, and staff dispatching.
  • Together with the Safety Manager, oversee railway safety, regulatory compliance, and safety culture, including the safety teams and operations inspectors.
  • Ensure fleet availability and fleet dispatching in close collaboration with maintenance partners.
  • Define service standards and operational quality and continuously improve them, including cleanliness, cleaning, and supply and disposal operations.
  • Manage operational partners and subcontractors, develop consistent standards with partner railway companies, optimize interfaces, and advance process excellence.
  • Define software development requirements with the team, automate and digitize processes, harmonize the software landscape, and ensure usability across functions.
  • Own the operational budget and key performance indicators, including reliability, safety, punctuality, cleanliness, shift staffing, and fleet availability.
  • Build the leadership team across all operational functions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience scaling operations in a growth environment.
  • Background in railway safety management systems.
  • Experience in fleet management.
  • Ideally, the candidate learned the railway trade from the ground up and subsequently developed professionally, for example through a consulting role before moving into an operational leadership position.
