Requirements
  • The provider must be licensed in Wisconsin as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • The provider must be a board-eligible advanced health professional; board certification is preferred.
  • The provider must be a graduate of an accredited college or university.
  • The provider must have successfully completed practical training required by the graduating educational institution and licensing body in psychiatry.
  • The position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflict.
  • The provider must be able to organize and plan activities, formulate policies, delegate responsibility, and make decisions affecting patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • The provider must be able to establish rapport and communicate effectively with patients and employees.
  • The provider must be able to lift at least 20 pounds and perform the required walking, sitting, standing, reaching, handling, grasping, and manual-dexterity duties.
  • The provider must be physically and mentally able to perform the job duties as verified by a post-employment physical examination.
Responsibilities
  • Attend patients and assist with patient coverage at assigned locations, levels of care, or virtual sites within the scope of licensure.
  • Conduct medication-management sessions with patients.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments.
  • Conduct histories and physical examinations.
  • Create and update patient treatment plans.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Participate in team and unit meetings.
  • Create discharge plans.
  • Participate in the established call schedule.
  • Complete charting and documentation within 24 hours.
  • Serve as the attending provider for assigned units.
  • Round on patients as required.
  • Provide medication education to nursing staff.
  • In-service the treatment team as needed.
  • Meet patient productivity standards.
  • Complete coding and documentation in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Attend Medical Staff and Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with contracted payors.
  • Review medically based denials of service from payors.
  • Coordinate care and aftercare with referring parties, psychiatrists, and primary-care advanced health professionals.
  • Market the employer through off-site meetings and marketing activities as appropriate.
  • Review potential admissions, pending cases, and declined admissions to ensure policy execution and compliance with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.
  • Serve as an advocate for the organization.
  • Provide support, information, education, and services.
  • Participate in quality-assurance and performance-improvement activities and meetings.
  • Identify new program-development opportunities for patient-care services.
  • Participate in community education about behavioral-health issues.
  • Provide initial placement recommendations based on admitting criteria, clinical parameters, medical history, and screening documentation.
  • Review and evaluate admission screenings to determine the appropriate program, level of care, and delivery mode.
  • Refer to and work with other departments and agencies as needed.
  • Report pertinent data to the attending provider and other team members.
  • Prioritize situations requiring immediate attention versus postponement.
  • Immediately communicate difficult problems to referring parties.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with medical staff and other providers for case communication and ongoing review.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience working as a provider in another licensed hospital or clinic.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a behavioral-health organization.
  • Experience implementing process improvement.
  • Board certification.
