About the job

Requirements
  • Strong product management experience across the full lifecycle, from discovery through delivery and into live running.
  • Experience of platform, API-first or infrastructure products, where users are other engineering teams rather than end customers, including ownership of API definition, versioning and documentation.
  • Strong core product management craft: discovery, framing the problem before the solution, roadmap definition, and making and defending prioritisation trade-offs with competing stakeholders.
  • Experience defining requirements for engineering teams, including acceptance criteria at a level of detail that removes ambiguity.
  • Comfort operating at a low level of abstraction in a technically complex, regulated environment, and reasoning about how components integrate, where data flows between them, and how they fail.
  • Ability to hold the line on platform integrity under delivery pressure, balancing franchise urgency against consistent, scalable foundations.
  • Experience in financial services, ideally across core banking, accounts, lending or customer data.
  • Ability to use data to drive decisions, interrogate system output directly, understand platform performance, and ground prioritisation in evidence rather than stakeholder volume.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, and credibility to work as a peer with engineers and senior business stakeholders up to ExCo.
  • Agile working practices and fluency in Jira and Confluence.
  • Precision and intellectual honesty, including willingness to challenge a design, escalate an unresolved decision, and acknowledge when an answer is not yet known.
Responsibilities
  • Own a single product roadmap across the Customer and Accounts platforms, sequenced against franchise commercial priorities, Core Banking Programme commitments and the platform’s delivery capacity.
  • Balance platform reliability, new capability and migration work in one plan, making trade-offs explicit rather than letting the loudest demand set the order.
  • Run discovery with the squads and franchises that depend on the platform, establishing the underlying customer and business need, the platform behaviour it implies, and whether the platform can support it.
  • Convert consumer demand into well-formed initiatives with a clear problem statement, scope, dependencies and definition of success, so the squad has a credible, prioritised pipeline of work.
  • Take on problems too large or cross-cutting for any single product squad to own, which become solvable when one platform holds the whole picture.
  • Own migration and decommissioning planning for legacy customer and account infrastructure, including how records are matched, moved, reconciled and proven correct.
  • Challenge requests that are poorly formed, unaffordable or better solved elsewhere in the estate, and propose alternatives early.
  • Own Customer Platform behaviour, including matching, merge and deduplication rules, the golden record, customer data maintenance and correction, downstream consequences of record changes, configuration, and rationale for parameter choices.
  • Own Accounts Platform behaviour, including account creation, lifecycle states and closure, how instructions reach Vault Core, and how posting and event behaviour is exposed to consuming systems.
  • Own the platform API surface as a product, including its definition, versioning and documentation, providing stable contracts for consuming systems and avoiding unexpected changes.
  • Set standards for how other squads integrate with the platform, covering integration patterns, idempotency, error handling and testing, and ensure that standards are understood and followed.
  • Translate consumer needs, regulatory obligations and platform constraints into unambiguous requirements, with user stories and acceptance criteria covering happy paths, unhappy paths, boundary cases and invalid inputs.
  • Decide whether a need is met by configuration, new platform capability or a change in a consuming system, and make the trade-off explicit rather than defaulting to building.
  • Build in controls required by the Bank, including FCA and Consumer Duty outcomes, customer and account data accuracy and lineage, auditable behaviour, and correct treatment under financial crime and data protection obligations.
  • Grow the Customer Platform as the Bank’s single source of truth for who it deals with, rather than another system holding a partial view.
  • Build reusable capability to make each new product and franchise faster and lower-effort to launch, rather than relying on one-off integrations.
  • Review implemented behaviour against requirements alongside engineers, and own product sign-off through test and UAT.
  • Work day to day with platform squad engineers in refinement, design discussions and defect triage.
  • Partner with franchise and product squads that consume the platform, and preserve platform integrity under delivery pressure by balancing franchise urgency against consistent, scalable foundations.
  • Work with Operations to understand how customers and accounts are onboarded and serviced, and incorporate that operational reality into platform decisions.
  • Engage Finance, Data, Legal and Risk & Compliance early so reporting needs, regulatory change and control expectations shape requirements rather than arriving as late constraints.
  • Communicate platform and integration decisions in plain language to non-technical stakeholders and in exacting detail to engineers, ensuring both audiences recognise the same decision.
  • Use data to understand platform performance and present roadmap and strategy to senior leadership, including the quarterly Technology Platform Playback attended by the CTO.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience of Thought Machine Vault Core, including its API surface and posting mechanics.
  • Experience of customer data management, including matching and merge, golden record or master data management.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design or event-driven architecture.
  • Experience migrating off and decommissioning legacy platforms, including data migration and reconciliation.
  • Understanding of the system landscape around customer and accounts, including origination, servicing, payments, collections and data.
  • A track record of using artificial intelligence to improve journeys and ways of working.

About the company

Shawbrook is a UK specialist lender that funds SMEs, property investors, and individuals by using savers’ deposits to back loans. Its products include SME lending, residential and commercial property lending, and asset finance and business credit, supported by a digital-enabled platform to manage applications, underwriting, and repayments. The bank has grown through strategic acquisitions and a history of taking a primarily private ownership path, differentiating itself from traditional high street banks by focusing on a simple, deposit-funded lending model and targeted lending segments rather than broad consumer banking. Shawbrook’s goal is to provide steady access to finance for its target customers, expand its loan book and capabilities through acquisitions and digital tools, and build long-term value for investors, as shown by its return to the London Stock Exchange with a second IPO in 2025.

City minister insists capital markets reform 'not a job done'

City minister insists capital markets reform 'not a job done' Senior City Reporter A top Treasury minister has opened the door to further capital markets reforms after saying the government's job was not done in improving listing incentives. Lucy Rigby, who serves as the economic secretary to the Treasury, otherwise known as City minister, told City AM the government was "continually looking for ways that we can ensure we're being as competitive as possible". "We need to be cognisant of global competition and vigilant," she said, adding "this isn't just about our capital markets, but a much broader question for our financial services sector". In the 2025 Budget, then-Chancellor Rachel Reeves launched a stamp duty holiday, removing the 0.5 per cent levy on UK stocks for newly-listed companies in their first three years of trading. "The reforms we've made to our capital markets are starting to bear some fruit... it's definitely not a job done. I think it's going to require a concerted and continued effort," Rigby said. News updates. Stay ahead with our three daily briefings delivering all the key market moves, top business and political stories, and incisive analysis straight to your inbox. She pointed to the £5.3bn IPO of Airtel Money - the City's biggest listing in five years - as a sign of "renewed momentum". But the year has remained subdued for major IPOs with top names rumoured to be mulling a float either delaying or scrapping plans. Top bosses have continued to call for bigger swings to unlock an influx of new listings. Rigby getting 'many calls' to do something about stamp duty. Fintech industry body Innovate Finance - which counts Revolut, Monzo and Zilch among its members - has called for stamp duty to be abolished entirely to "help reverse the decline in British ownership of UK companies". Rigby told City AM: "I wouldn't be doing my job properly if I hadn't heard many calls to do something about stamp." UK fintech investment hit a decade low in the first-half of the year at £1.8bn, down roughly two-thirds from the £5bn the year prior. Rigby said the figure was "not an amount of money to be sniffed at" but added the Treasury was making a "very considerable effort" to improve access to capital. The minister met with top fintech unicorn chiefs last week, including the bosses of iwoca, Clearbank and Modulur. A number of the industry's top firms have ramped up lobbying efforts ahead of the Budget, with a key demand for the government to increase the threshold at which banks are hit with a sector specific tax. Revolut and Monzo teamed up with Shawbrook, Aldemore and other challenger banks to lobby for the surcharge threshold to £500m, from £100m. Rigby said: "Decisions on all forms of tax are for the Chancellor and he'll make them in the context of the Budget" She added: "There is no route to good growth in every postcode that doesn't involve our world-leading financial services sector supporting the ambitions of the whole country.

Shawbrook backs listed Bristol pub conversion with £3.1m development loan.

Shawbrook backs listed Bristol pub conversion with £3.1m development loan. Shawbrook has provided a £3.1 million development finance facility to support the transformation of a former Bristol pub into a 33-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme. The 16-month facility is supporting the redevelopment of The Old Tavern in Stapleton, combining the conversion and extension of the existing Grade II listed property with the construction of a new two-storey building within the grounds. The completed development will provide a mix of cluster and studio accommodation, with ensuite bedrooms, communal areas and amenity space, and is expected to have a Gross Development Value (GDV) of approximately £4.6 million. Given the listed status of the property and associated planning and construction considerations, the developer was looking for a lender that could provide a well-structured facility and support the more complex requirements of the project. Broker partner Page Property Finance introduced the developer to Shawbrook, with both already familiar with the bank's experience and appetite for supporting PBSA schemes across Bristol. Shawbrook structured the £3.1 million facility to support the delivery of the scheme, which is now nearing completion. Mike Page, Director at Page Property Finance, said: "The client needed a lender that understood the PBSA market and could get comfortable with the additional considerations that come with a listed building development. Understanding Shawbrook's track record supporting similar schemes in the region, Bridging Loan Directory felt the team would be a good fit for the project. Greg and the Shawbrook team worked closely with Bridging Loan Directory and its client to understand the requirements of the development and put the right funding structure in place. It's great to see the project now nearing completion and the client's plans coming to life." Greg Pescott, Relationship Director, Development Finance at Shawbrook, commented: "This is an exciting scheme from an experienced developer, bringing a historic Bristol property back into use while delivering much-needed new student accommodation. The combination of the listed building and new-build elements makes this a particularly interesting project. It's a strong addition to Bristol's student accommodation market and Bridging Loan Directory is pleased to have supported in delivering the developer's plans for the site."
