Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Metallurgy or Mineral Process Engineering is required.
  • A broad understanding of Mineral Process Engineering is required, including experience with mill circuits (comminution), flotation, and heap leach operations for copper or gold.
  • Extensive experience in mineral processing, including evaluation of third-party operations, with more than 20 years of experience working in both open-pit and underground mining environments, is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of copper and gold deposit types is required; experience with ferrous, phosphate, and critical metal or mineral deposit types in Australia or Canada is advantageous.
  • An understanding of geometallurgical models with respect to orebody and deposit knowledge is required.
  • Detailed knowledge or interest in machine learning and data science as applied to the mineral processing sector is required.
  • Knowledge of mineral resource modeling software platforms and data analysis tools is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are required to convey complex geometallurgical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with mining regulations and reporting standards in Australia, including JORC, and Canada, including NI 43-101, is required.
  • Leadership qualities to manage a growing team of metallurgists and mineral processing engineers are required.
  • An open motor vehicle driving licence is required.
  • No criminal convictions that would restrict international travel, including travel under ESTA or eTA, are required.
  • The ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time is required.
  • The ability to work at remote mine sites with significant diversity is required.
  • The candidate must be able to wear standard mine personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead an expanding metallurgical team, providing expertise on mineral processing methodologies and ensuring the quality control of all geometallurgical models.
  • Audit the clients' geometallurgy (Kriging) models and Stratum's newly generated models.
  • Assist in auditing and analyzing complex mine-site databases focused on measured geometallurgical parameters, and report potential issues with the data and the client's conclusions.
  • Collaborate with Stratum's machine learning engineers and the client's mine planners, metallurgists, and mineral process engineers to optimize the models.
  • Provide technical input to enhance the sales team's capabilities.
  • Implement rigorous audit and quality-control procedures for client data, new collection procedures when required, and Stratum resource models to ensure model accuracy and reliability.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant mining regulations regarding ore reserve reporting and disclosure.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Provide guidance and training to more junior metallurgists, mineral process engineers, and geometallurgists within the developing team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional CP or QP credentials for multiple copper or gold deposit types commonly found in Australia or Canada.
  • Technical proficiency in another spoken language.
  • Experience working for a start-up or mining consultancy group.
