Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved American Registry of Radiologic Technologists program.
  • Knowledge of radiography tools, techniques, and applications, with the ability to use imaging technology on patients for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
  • Knowledge of preparing patients for diagnostic or radiological imaging and monitoring their reactions during and after procedures.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Active MRI certification.
  • License as required by the state.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of magnetic resonance imaging procedures and scans to produce detailed tissue images for medical diagnosis under the supervision of a radiologist.
  • Prepare pertinent information for physician and care-team review.
  • Deliver patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Process and evaluate the technical quality of images, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Maintain critical patient and equipment positioning during contrast-media flow to ensure patient safety and successful examination results.
  • Instruct patients on body positioning during MRI exams and testing, explain the MRI procedure before and after scanning, and answer patient questions.
  • Determine equipment requirements for procedures based on the physician’s tentative diagnoses and obtain scout films for the physician’s preliminary review.
  • Maintain MRI equipment through scheduled cleaning, testing, and documentation of results, and notify supervision of malfunctions.
  • Implement MRI safety guidelines and conduct appropriate MRI safety procedures during imaging.
  • Perform other technologist duties as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager, including quality assurance and quality control activities.
