Requirements
  • APRN candidates must have a master's degree with an advanced practice nursing focus and national board certification.
  • PA candidates must have a master's degree and the appropriate national certification.
  • APRN candidates must hold national board certification as a certified nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse-midwife, or certified registered nurse anesthetist matching the scope of practice.
  • PA candidates must hold National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
  • APRN candidates must hold a current Ohio Board of Nursing license.
  • PA candidates must hold a current Ohio license 50RX to practice with prescriptive authority.
  • The provider must maintain a collaborative or supervision agreement as required by the Ohio Medical Board or Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • The provider must be able to evaluate signs and symptoms, including age-appropriate changes, and identify pertinent positives and negatives.
  • The provider must assess complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients and obtain relevant comprehensive and problem-focused health histories.
  • The provider must develop and reformulate prioritized differential diagnoses, identify comorbidities, and use diagnostic strategies and technical skills to monitor physiological function and ensure patient safety.
  • The provider must use evidence-based practice, prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, implement treatment and referral orders, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing.
  • The provider must demonstrate effective documentation of diagnoses, examination findings, and plans.
  • The provider must demonstrate assessment skills, diagnostic critical thinking, and implementation of a plan of care.
  • The provider must maintain competency and skills in the specialty practice area.
  • The provider must be able to work autonomously with limited direction and follow physician instructions.
  • The provider must demonstrate awareness of patient confidentiality.
  • The provider must demonstrate the ability to multitask and work under stress.
Responsibilities
  • Provide heart and vascular healthcare services by synthesizing and applying evidence-based practice, research, and current clinical knowledge.
  • Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and supervising or collaborating physicians.
  • Perform history taking, clinical assessment, physical examination, order entry, interpretation of diagnostic studies, clinical diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care for the assigned population.
  • Perform assigned on-call duties and participate in the inpatient weekend rotation.
  • Complete quality assurance chart reviews with physicians and other advanced practice providers.
  • Participate in daily team transition huddles to facilitate coordinated patient care.
  • Monitor and ensure healthcare practice quality through consultation, collaboration, continuing education, certification, and evaluation.
  • Improve personal practice and participate in interdisciplinary peer and colleague review.
  • Adapt teaching and learning approaches to patients' physiological, psychological, developmental, cognitive, health-literacy, environmental, and resource needs.
  • Collaborate professionally to identify processes and principles supporting quality core metrics and documentation standards.
  • Build collaborative intra- and interprofessional relationships to provide optimal care for patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic illness.
  • Advocate for the patient population and the profession through active participation in the health policy process.
  • Address the development and implementation of system policies affecting healthcare services.
