About the company

Dell Technologies makes laptops, desktops, servers, data storage and networking equipment for businesses, governments, schools and consumers, and it builds many of the server racks inside large AI data centers. In 2016 it completed its $67 billion purchase of storage maker EMC, then the largest technology deal ever. One division sells PCs, monitors and Alienware gaming computers, while the other sells PowerEdge servers, storage arrays and networking gear to companies running their own data centers. Dell earns money from those hardware sales plus support, financing and subscription services. Michael Dell founded the company in 1984 from his University of Texas dorm room, and it is based in Round Rock, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is surging: Dell booked $60.9 billion in AI server orders in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • A $95 billion order backlog gives teams years of work: Dell raised its fiscal 2027 sales forecast to $192 billion.
  • Dell pays for staff to keep learning: its benefits profile lists tuition assistance and apprenticeship programs.

What critics are saying

  • Jobs keep shrinking: Dell's March 2026 annual report showed headcount down 10% to about 97,000, a third straight yearly cut.
  • A few giant buyers drive AI sales: SpaceX and CoreWeave ranked among Dell's largest customers in August 2026.
  • PCs earn thin profits: Dell's PC division kept just 7.6 cents of operating profit per sales dollar last quarter.

What makes Dell Technologies unique

  • Dell sells both halves of computing: data center gear brought in $31.8 billion last quarter, PCs another $15.0 billion.
  • The founder still controls it: Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, holds super-voting shares with over half the director votes.
  • Dell sells straight to buyers at scale: its own sales force, not resellers, brings in about half of revenue.

Dell tops CIO spending plans as price rises pull forward hardware buying

Corporate technology buyers expect spending on storage, PCs, and servers to accelerate in 2027, according to a Morgan Stanley survey of chief information officers (CIOs). Dell Technologies ranked first in three-year vendor spending intentions at 31%, ahead of Hewlett Packard Enterprise at 28% and Pure Storage at 22%. Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring said higher prices and purchases pulled forward from 2027 are driving the lift more than on-premise AI demand. Between 75% and 83% of CIOs are already adjusting 2026 hardware budgets, and more than 70% expect server, storage, or PC budgets to flatten or decline by 2028. CIOs expect about 29% of AI inference workloads to run on-premise or on devices; the rest would stay in the cloud. Dell shares fell about 11% on October 14 after Barclays downgraded the stock to Equal Weight.

Dell stock surged 274.5% in a year as AI server orders hit $60.9B

Dell Technologies shares returned 274.5% in the twelve months to October 12, 2026, far ahead of the 17.3% gain for the S&P 500. The rally centred on servers and storage, particularly hardware built for artificial intelligence (AI). The first clear signal came on November 26, 2024, when Dell said its five-quarter sales pipeline had grown more than 50% from the previous quarter. Revenue growth then slowed before reaching 19.0% in the quarter ended in summer 2025, with revenue of $29.8 billion. In the quarter reported on September 1, 2026, Dell booked a record $60.9 billion of AI server orders and recognised $16.4 billion of AI server revenue. Its AI backlog reached $95 billion. Memory chip shortages remain the main constraint.

Buy TTM Technologies and Dell, sell Silgan: 2 profitable stocks to own, 1 to avoid

StockStory has named two profitable stocks to buy and one to sell, arguing that profit today does not guarantee success tomorrow. It rates Silgan Holdings (NYSE: SLGN), a rigid packaging supplier founded in 1987, as a sell. Revenue grew 4.7% a year over five years, slower than industrial peers, and earnings per share rose just 2.4% a year. Its gross margin is 16.8%, and the stock trades at $35.44, or 9.2x forward earnings. The buy picks are TTM Technologies (NASDAQ: TTMI) and Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL). TTM, a printed circuit board maker, grew revenue 20.7% a year over two years and projects 52.3% growth. Its shares trade at $121.49, or 18.5x forward earnings. Dell grew revenue 28.3% a year over two years, while earnings per share rose 59.3% a year. Its stock trades at $585.86, or 20.4x forward earnings.

Dell launches Windows AI PCs with NVIDIA & Microsoft.

Dell launches Windows AI PCs with NVIDIA & Microsoft. Fri, 9th Oct 2026 (Today) Dell has launched new Windows PCs and workstations for local AI development, created in partnership with NVIDIA and Microsoft. The update includes the XPS 16 Creator Edition laptop, a Dell Creator Edition Desktop and a rebrand of Dell's AI workstation line under the Dell Pro Precision name. Dell Pro Precision with GB300 will also be offered on Windows, bringing a deskside AI system into enterprise Windows environments. The XPS 16 Creator Edition is the first XPS laptop to use the NVIDIA RTX Spark superchip. It supports up to 128GB of unified memory, allowing the CPU and GPU to share a single memory pool for larger AI models, 3D scenes and video projects. The hardware is aimed at creators and developers who want to run models locally rather than rely on cloud infrastructure. The machine includes the NVIDIA CUDA stack and supports tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ComfyUI and Cursor on RTX Spark. Dell also introduced a compact desktop under the Creator Edition name, using the same RTX Spark superchip and up to 128GB of unified memory. The desktop is designed to sustain heavier workloads for longer than a laptop, including rendering, 3D work, and AI training or fine-tuning tasks. According to Dell, the desktop can deliver up to 1 petaflop of FP4 compute and support AI models with more than 250 billion parameters. Both Creator systems are positioned for users who want AI development, creative software and gaming support on a Windows machine. Workstation rebrand Dell is renaming Dell Pro Max with GB10 and Dell Pro Max with GB300 as Dell Pro Precision with GB10 and Dell Pro Precision with GB300. The move brings the systems under the Pro Precision workstation brand, which Dell uses for machines aimed at professional workloads such as simulation, rendering, engineering and AI development. The more significant change in the workstation line is the planned Windows version of Dell Pro Precision with GB300. Dell said organisations have often used Linux for demanding AI workloads while keeping everyday productivity and engineering work on Windows, and it wants to bring those environments closer together. Dell Pro Precision with GB300 on Windows is intended for developers building and deploying AI agents within existing enterprise desktop environments. IT departments will be able to deploy the system within current Windows infrastructure without changing operating systems or introducing separate management policies, according to Dell. The hardware scales to 20 petaflops of FP4 compute and 748GB of memory on NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip, according to Dell. Dell said that specification allows the workstation to run models with up to 1 trillion parameters locally. Windows Subsystem for Linux is part of the setup, giving developers access to Linux-based AI frameworks and the NVIDIA CUDA ecosystem from within Windows. Dell said this removes the need for dual booting or switching between separate environments. Display and connectivity For the XPS 16 Creator Edition, Dell has also focused on display quality and physical connectivity. According to the company, the laptop includes a 3.2K tandem OLED display with 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, Pantone Validation and factory calibration to Delta E below 2. Dell said the screen supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 600, brightness of up to 1,000 nits and a variable refresh rate from 20Hz to 120Hz. The laptop also includes a full-size SDXC v7.1 card reader, three USB4 Type-C ports, DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1b and a universal audio jack. Software support is also central to Dell's pitch. RTX Spark Windows PCs support both native applications and x86 applications through Prism emulation. Dell named Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere as native applications, while MATLAB is supported through Prism. Gaming support is another part of the message, with support for anti-cheat systems including Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye, as well as the Xbox PC app. That places the products in the broader Windows device market rather than positioning them as narrowly specialised workstations. Rob Bruckner, President, Client Devices, Dell Technologies, said: "AI is no longer something you build in the cloud and deploy later. It runs continuously, makes decisions and connects directly to the work people do every day. From a creator pushing the limits of a premium laptop to an enterprise team running always-on AI models at their desk, Dell, NVIDIA and Microsoft are delivering the compute to drive the agentic AI era." Dell said the XPS 16 Creator Edition will be available in Singapore in mid-to-late October 2026, while the Dell Creator Edition Desktop and Dell Pro Precision with GB300 on Windows will follow.
