- Collaborate with physicians through electronic communication, face-to-face communication, or telephone communication to discuss patient-care needs that cannot be addressed using standing orders or practice protocols.
- Use triage care plans, pathways, and algorithms for patient care in assigned clinics while ensuring quality of service and adherence to standardized procedures, protocols, quality-improvement objectives, safety standards, environmental standards, and infection-control standards.
- Provide clear education to patients and caregivers and verify their understanding of instructions and the care plan.
- Counsel patients, families, and caregivers about medication side effects within the medical assistant scope of practice, applicable referrals, and available community resources.
- Notify patients of normal or stable laboratory and test results after physician, advanced practice provider, or registered nurse review.
- Encourage patient compliance with supportive and treatment regimens.
- Promote patient self-care responsibility for meeting personal health needs.
- Identify and accommodate patient disabilities and limitations, and access interpretive services or other needed accommodations.
- Adapt communication style to meet the needs of patients and other customers from diverse personal, professional, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Assist with prior authorization for prescription refills when needed.
- Coordinate triage efforts with the front office, nursing, patient advocates, financial counselors, pharmacy, and other departments to ensure effective and efficient communication that meets patient needs.
- Perform charting and update records in the electronic medical record as expected.
- Apply policies and procedures associated with operational activities affecting patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
- Participate in and initiate performance-improvement activities as requested.
- Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate assistance or educational offerings as part of professional development.

- Perform the physical activities required for the role, including standing, walking, sitting, fingering, repetitive finger motion, lifting or exerting up to 50 pounds, reaching or stretching, climbing or balancing, crouching or stooping, speaking, hearing, and seeing with correction.

Executing a major renovation around cancer care: how Tennessee Oncology is giving its downtown Chattanooga office a major facelift. Tennessee Oncology, which treats nearly half the cancer patients in the Volunteer State, opened the newly-renovated lobby today and began construction on the second and third floors at its downtown Chattanooga clinic, located at 1032 McCallie Ave., as part of a two-year overhaul. Renovating an operational oncology clinic requires expertise so that patient care is not disrupted and the project build-out can be staged efficiently. Tennessee Oncology is partnering with Blevins Construction and Tinker Ma to double the overall size of the clinic, including: * Expanding patient check-in and check-out areas * Doubling the infusion room space * Tripling the exam and new patient consult rooms * Increasing the laboratory, pharmacy, and research pharmacy areas * Adding an administrative suite "Tennessee Oncology has deep roots in the Chattanooga community, and we're excited to unveil our newly renovated lobby and welcome patients and their families into a space designed to enhance the patient experience," said Natalie Dickson, MD, CEO and President of Tennessee Oncology. Tennessee Oncology breaks ground on new cancer center in Murfreesboro. Tennessee Oncology, a nationally recognized physician-owned specialty practice, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 23, for a new comprehensive cancer center in Murfreesboro. The center, located at 1635 Blackman Road, will be a three-story, 56,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. Drs. Yajun Ma, Christopher Waynick, and Michael Stany will begin caring for patients in the new facility beginning in spring 2027. The new location will expand access to integrated cancer services in Rutherford County, including advanced imaging, medical oncology, and radiation oncology - bringing more care closer to where patients live and work. "Murfreesboro continues to grow rapidly, and ensuring patients have access to high-quality cancer care close to home is essential," said Natalie Dickson, M.D., President and CEO of Tennessee Oncology.
