Requirements
  • At least 5 years of project management experience in civil construction.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing in a unionized environment.
  • A diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Technology.
  • Strong knowledge of construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to manage daily challenges while keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel within British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • A valid Canadian driver’s license and clean driving abstract.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Responsibilities
  • Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead time to avoid delays.
  • Ensure project deliverables and plans are prepared and issued to the client in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Identify constructability issues in moderately complex situations and create solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
  • Monitor construction progress and update senior management to ensure projects are built on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and monitor project resource requirements, coordinating with personnel and operating divisions to optimize corporate resource utilization.
  • Correspond with subcontractors and major suppliers to prepare contracts.
  • Work with the project team to issue material purchase orders and confirm receipt of materials and return of equipment.
  • Mentor and lead operations staff on site.
  • Supervise and mentor site personnel.
  • Maintain a thorough Superintendent’s daily report tracking site progress, events, inspections, and other relevant information.
  • Provide safety and quality leadership throughout the project.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection on the project.
  • Apply health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures to common construction processes.
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and proactively resolve problems.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to monitor the financial aspects of the contract and protect both parties’ interests.
  • Regularly monitor and review project cost variances and provide feedback to project teams.
