Ex-Anduril and Applied Intuition duo raise $30M for European defence AI infrastructure. July 29, 2026 * Agon has secured $30 million, making it one of the biggest defence tech seed rounds in Europe this year. * The funding comes from a $7 million pre-seed round and a $23 million seed round, with backing from Lakestar, Lux Capital, Northzone, and XYZ. * Agon's founders have experience leading European operations at Anduril and Applied Intuition, and they also co-founded Cambridge Aerospace. Most autonomous weapons and command systems use AI, which needs high-quality training data. In defence, this data is hard to find, often classified, and scattered across countries unwilling to share it. Agon, a London startup, has come out of stealth with one of the largest defence tech seed rounds in Europe this year, according to Resilience Media. The funding includes a $7 million pre-seed round and a $23 million seed round, with support from Lakestar, Lux Capital, Northzone, and XYZ Venture Capital. Why training data is a bottleneck. AI is now part of most modern defence systems, including command software, navigation, and decision-making for drones, missiles, and uncrewed vehicles. All of these need training data, which is difficult to get. But this approach does not fix the bigger issue. Countries that want their own defence capabilities need to train systems on their own confidential data, without relying on others. They need secure environments made just for this. Agon believes defence AI will become specialised, much like how gaming engines are built for games and defence environments are built for defence, rather than relying on a single general-purpose platform like Scale AI does for commercial AI. Founders with the background investors look for. Tristam Constant previously led Applied Intuition's European defence business and was a senior director at Anduril after serving 13 years in the British Army. His co-founder, Junaid Hussain, is a serial entrepreneur and former investor who also co-founded Cambridge Aerospace and the AI gaming company Iconic. Agon's chair, David Helgason, founded Unity Technologies and was its CEO. This is his first time chairing a defence company, since his earlier investments were in gaming. Agon has offices in London and Berlin, and its team includes people who have worked at AWS, Google, Helsing, and Palantir. Resilience Media reports that Agon has spent much of this year hiring talent from other defence tech companies in Germany while staying in stealth. Agon has not named any customers yet and has shared few details about its platform. Because the founders have ties to Anduril, Applied Intuition, Cambridge Aerospace, and Helsing, these companies could be early customers, but nothing is confirmed. The name Agon was chosen on purpose. In ancient Greek mythology, Agon was a minor god associated with struggle and later with competition. This fits the company's focus on gaming, AI, and defence technology. Agon is entering a market with significant investment. Lakestar recently closed a $300 million fund called Resilience I, which focuses on defence and dual-use technology. Its portfolio includes Helsing, Tekever, ARX Robotics, and Isar Aerospace. It is still unclear if Agon's specialised training infrastructure will become essential or end up being part of larger platforms. We will see how this develops over the next year.
