Requirements
  • The candidate must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • The candidate must be able to self-regulate and work independently.
  • The candidate must be capable of performing necessary physical duties, including moving heavy objects.
  • The candidate must be familiar with and able to carry out minor repairs to the facility and equipment.
  • The candidate must have knowledge and training in plumbing, electrical, heating, water, gas, mechanical, plastering, and painting.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain and manage a budget, track work completed, and record associated costs.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of health and safety.
  • The candidate must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or be willing to obtain one.
Responsibilities
  • The Maintenance Assistant executes routine repairs and carries out minor maintenance operations on electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment and the building.
  • The Maintenance Assistant paints, performs minor carpentry, and maintains exterior grounds except for services performed under service contract.
  • The Maintenance Assistant regularly inspects the entire premises from a maintenance and safety standpoint and files required reports with the supervisor.
  • The Maintenance Assistant follows established facility policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.
  • While assigned handyman responsibilities, the employee continues to fulfill housekeeping and maintenance duties as required.
  • The Maintenance Assistant works in a position of trust with vulnerable adults who are residents.
  • The Maintenance Assistant upholds and promotes the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity.
  • The Maintenance Assistant completes other duties as assigned.
