Bay Area launches first AI-powered safety net programme for unhoused communities

Future Communities Institute has launched the Bay Area's first AI-powered safety net programme in partnership with Five Keys, ReImagine Freedom and Akido Labs. The initiative will use Akido's AI-enabled care model to expand street medicine teams and deliver personalised care to vulnerable populations. The programme addresses growing homelessness in the Bay Area, which has increased 6% year-over-year, with approximately two-thirds of unhoused residents living on the streets. It deploys Akido's ScopeAI system, which guides community health workers through comprehensive patient visits and can initiate medically assisted treatment for substance use disorders within four hours of initial contact. ScopeAI has been trained on over 10 million patient cases and currently supports visits across multiple medical specialties, serving 500,000 patients through Akido's network of 240 clinicians.
