Requirements
  • Expertise in OAW, OFC, PAC, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, soldering, brazing, thermal gouging, structural welding, and pipe welding processes.
  • Applicants selected for interviewing must demonstrate welding ability and pass applicable weld tests.
  • For WEL 1000, possess an associate degree or higher, or 2,000 hours of experience managing, leading, or operating under an industrial safety program, or a current relevant industry safety certification or licensure.
  • For WEL 1001, 1003, 1010, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2024, 2030, 2031, 2050, and 2089, possess an associate degree or higher and 4,000 hours of verifiable industry occupational welding experience outside teaching.
  • For the listed welding courses, demonstrate expertise in OAW, OFC, PAC, CAC-A, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, including structural and piping shapes in appropriate positions and processes.
  • Demonstrate expertise through current AWS, ASME, API, AWWA, or other relevant welder certifications, transcripted courses, a work portfolio, or in-person demonstrations.
  • For Special Topics in Welding I-VI, meet WEL 1000 requirements and have 4,000 hours of verifiable welding industry occupational experience outside teaching.
  • Upon hire, submit academic transcripts from an accredited institution and provide a credential evaluation for degrees earned outside the United States.
  • Provide a resume, cover letter, and copy of transcripts.
  • If hired, provide identity and authorization-to-work documents within three days of the hire date.
  • Upon hire, complete a criminal background check and any applicable industry-specific screening.
Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in a wide variety of welding and cutting processes in accordance with industry standards and department practices.
  • Supervise students to ensure safe and proper use of the facility, equipment, and supplies.
  • Evaluate student work and assign grades.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and repair of welding program equipment.
  • Participate in professional development and training activities to maintain instructional skills and welding-program knowledge.
  • Assist full-time faculty with program and curriculum review, revision, development, and learning assessment.
  • Provide effective, high-quality instruction using learning-centered educational practices and clearly defined student-learning outcomes.
  • Provide learning activities tied to defined learning outcomes and use assessment data to improve instruction and learning.
  • Develop and refine department curriculum to maintain current pedagogy and subject content.
  • Participate in college-wide dialogue about teaching and learning.
  • Meet assigned classes and submit grades, course syllabi, and other required documents on time.
  • Perform faculty advising duties as appropriate.
  • Manage classroom and laboratory facilities as appropriate.
  • Keep accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Acquire and maintain certifications as necessary.
  • Create teaching methodologies and instructional designs that facilitate learner-centered student learning.
  • Complete coursework related to the teaching assignment.
  • Participate in advisory committee meetings and activities as required.
  • Develop relationships with business, industry, and community members.
  • Implement department, division, and institutional goals as assigned.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Welding Department Chair or Academic Dean.
