Requirements
- A bachelor's degree, or an associate degree combined with extensive trades or maintenance supervision experience, is required; appropriate experience may substitute for education on an equivalent basis.
- At least fifteen years of technical background plus leadership experience is required.
- General knowledge of maintenance requirements, building codes, inspections, testing, and regulations for building systems is required.
- Knowledge of life safety systems, including fire alarm and fire suppression systems, is required.
- Knowledge of building envelope systems, including roofs, windows, curtain walls, exterior precast concrete, and paving, is required.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, including chillers, cooling towers, HVAC air and hot water systems, steam systems, laboratory mechanical systems, backflow prevention devices, registered pressure vessels, underground storage tanks, vacuum systems, water treatment systems, and elevators, is required.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, including emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power systems, electrical power distribution, lighting controls, and data centers, is required.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to refrigeration management, wastewater, and asbestos management is required.
- Ability to direct the work of others and oversee planning for repairs, alterations, construction, equipment, grounds, and landscaping is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers is required.
- Advanced managerial, planning, staff development, and team-building knowledge and abilities are required.
- Ability to manage multiple, competing, and frequently changing priorities using initiative and judgment is required.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills, high productivity and accuracy standards, and a service-oriented approach are required.
- Ability to handle or lift materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.

Responsibilities
- Manage the daily activities and priorities of Facilities Engineering and Maintenance with the Maintenance Supervisor, Facility Manager, and Facility Engineer to ensure optimum campus operation.
- Manage engineering controls and systems maintenance and repair activities supporting building automation, HVAC, mechanical, electrical power, and life safety systems.
- Ensure effective implementation of new hardware, software, and programming activities to maintain a comfortable and safe workplace.
- Monitor preventive and predictive maintenance processes and ensure procedures are followed during repairs and upgrades of building systems and facility equipment through the CMMS system.
- Update, maintain, and administer the CMMS system through the system software provider.
- Oversee facility operations activities, including General Services, Crafts, landscaping, and custodial activities.
- Liaise with project managers on construction projects requiring MEP system modifications and collaborate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to maintain or improve the integrity of affected MEP systems.
- Participate in the planning and development of capital projects.
- Manage and execute the development, design, and construction of capital projects related to facility and system repairs and upgrades.
- Lead the Facilities Engineering and Maintenance team to maintain customer satisfaction, building efficiency, and campus appearance.
- Attract and retain key personnel through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Develop career development pathways for employees throughout the organization.
- Provide occasional evening or weekend availability by phone or email and occasional on-site presence outside scheduled hours when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a hospital, research facility, or higher education environment is preferred.
- Professional Engineer, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Certified Facility Manager, Facility Management Professional, journeyman, or other facility maintenance credentials or certifications are preferred.
