Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Three months to one year of experience in a related function is typical.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, behavioral conditions, and/or brain injury is strongly preferred.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Applicants must have a current, valid United States driver's license and satisfy the stated minimum holding-period requirement.
  • Applicants must be able to become certified in CPR and First Aid within two weeks of employment, MAP within 150 days of employment, PBS Tier 1 within 150 days of employment, and Safety Care within 90 days of employment.
  • Applicants must successfully pass CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, and driving-record checks.
  • Applicants using a personal vehicle must maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record.
  • Applicants must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift, and assist clients with activities of daily living.
  • Applicants must be able to operate a computer and office equipment, communicate with clients and staff, and meet the specified vision, hearing, mobility, and physical-effort requirements.
  • Knowledge of different communication styles, empowerment and self-advocacy techniques, participatory planning techniques, crisis intervention techniques, advocacy techniques, physical personal management skills, and household management skills is required.
  • Applicants must be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct individual and group support to people with brain injury or behavioral conditions in residential settings.
  • Teach skills that enhance independence and quality of life.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and clean residential environment during overnight program activities.
  • Assist in implementing treatment programs, including Individual Support Plans, Person-Centered Service/Treatment Plans, and clinical programs, and participate in treatment planning as needed.
  • Maintain records for people served, collect behavioral and academic data, maintain progress notes, and document incidents, programs, and routine activities in the communication log.
  • Train and support people served in completing activities of daily living, including showering, personal hygiene, dressing, and household chores.
  • Conduct fire and safety training and document the training in the training log.
  • Monitor physical and emotional needs and report changes to the supervisor.
  • Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication in accordance with Medication Administration Plan requirements, funding-source regulations, and company policy.
  • Participate in mandated training and staff meetings and assist with orienting new staff.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and corporate and divisional policies and procedures.
  • Perform hands-on program tasks, maintain site safety, and complete housekeeping, snow shoveling, garbage removal, and transportation duties as necessary.
  • Maintain the required staff-to-person-served ratio and provide last-minute coverage when required.
  • Provide physical intervention and/or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies and report to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission.
  • Remain awake, alert, and dressed throughout the entire overnight shift.
