Requirements
  • Knowledge of complex and heavy rigging, crane boom and cable changes, electrical safety, ladder and scaffold safety, lifting machinery, wire rope, basic rigging, fire prevention, choker sizing, load charts, cutting torches, and basic blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of work-related tools and equipment and the ability to operate them safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive use of the hands, arms, and legs; maintain hand-eye coordination; and communicate by hearing, comprehending, and speaking safely at work.
  • Ability to perform sedentary to heavy work and operate electric, gas, and pneumatic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on steel or wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects frequently.
  • Ability to perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, overhead reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
  • Ability to walk on uneven, muddy, rocky, loose, or soft surfaces.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Reading and writing comprehension sufficient to give and receive work directions and follow safety policies.
  • Ability to use mathematics and complete calculations.
  • Ability to work at varying tempos, concentrate amid distractions, make decisions, and remember, examine, and observe details.
Responsibilities
  • Load, transport, and unload materials, and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to the weight and size of the load.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials.
  • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities for tools and equipment.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Obtain a certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NCCER.
