Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two to three years of experience working with children or youth with behavioral needs is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old due to licensure requirements.
  • A valid Indiana driver's license and a driving record meeting Damar's insurance eligibility requirements are required for positions involving driving.
  • Applicants must have no felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, or other disqualifying criminal convictions.
  • Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Applicants must favorably meet and maintain Damar's background screening.
  • Applicants must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods and occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Applicants must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Applicants must be able to operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard, travel to other locations, and communicate effectively.
  • Applicants must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies, including aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, elopement, and other unpredictable behaviors.
  • Regular and acceptable attendance is required.
  • Each essential function must be performed satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with youth to promote engagement, trust, accountability, and progress toward individualized goals.
  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to youth while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive program environment.
  • Respond appropriately to youth behaviors and individual needs using approved strategies, interventions, and de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate with families, schools, referral sources, and community partners to support youth progress and continuity of services.
  • Maintain consistent weekly communication with the school of origin, probation officer, family case manager, or other referral source, as well as the parents or caregivers of youth referred to the program.
  • Facilitate daily evidence-based group psychoeducational classes.
  • Implement individualized educational continuation plans to support academic progress during program participation.
  • Facilitate enrollment and participation in credit recovery and other computer-based educational programs, as appropriate.
  • Facilitate community service opportunities and community-based learning activities, when applicable.
  • Travel occasionally to support community-based activities, outings, meetings, and other program needs.
  • Operate Damar vehicles and/or personal vehicles to transport youth as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress notes, educational plans, and program documentation in accordance with agency, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor youth progress and adjust educational, vocational, and transition plans as needed to promote positive outcomes.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Complete and update mandatory training and other licensure-related items in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize duties consistently with organizational objectives and growth.
  • Respect the culture, diversity, and rights of all clients, their families, and the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Teacher assistant experience or a teaching license is a plus but is not required.
