Strong C++ knowledge and multi-threaded programming techniques
Thorough knowledge and proficient application of 3D math, rendering algorithms, and data structures
Strong communication and proficiency in working with technical artists to develop and iterate on features/tools
Deep knowledge of at least one graphics API (DirectX11, DirectX12, OpenGL, Vulkan, Metal, etc)
Demonstrated performance and memory optimization skills

Responsibilities

Work with tech artists to improve workflows and tools when authoring materials on large projects
Improve iteration and build times by working with tech artists and the shader compiler team to reduce shader and material permutations
Help us raise the final visual fidelity of material layers in Unreal through a combination of novel new graphics techniques and improvements to existing techniques
Improve the material compiler to have new language features to manage the complexity of large material graphs
Drive tools that go along with features and ensure they are usable and appropriate for artists and the engine across games and film
Help supporting external clients identifying areas for improvement and designing/implementing solutions
Be forward-thinking to keep up to date on current techniques, research, graphics data, hardware, etc

What You’ll Do

Epic Games is searching for a Rendering Architecture Programmer to help enhance and maintain the Material system and Material editor in Unreal Engine. You will work directly with some of the brightest technical and artistic minds in the industry as we build the premier material system and material editor that will be used.

In this role, you will

Work with tech artists to improve workflows and tools when authoring materials on large projects

What we’re looking for
