About the job

Requirements
  • Have personally built real electrical hardware; demonstrated build experience is valued more than years of experience.
  • Be comfortable working with high voltage, including safe isolation, lockout, and arc-flash awareness.
  • Have hands-on experience with harnesses, connectors, and installations.
  • Be able to lay out simple printed circuit boards for power distribution, breakout, and integration.
  • Know power distribution, protection, control interfaces, and component selection for high-reliability applications.
  • Have taken a design through prototype to a product that ships and holds up in the field.
Responsibilities
  • Design the electrical system end to end, covering power, propulsion, energy storage, control, communications, and high voltage.
  • Build and install the system in the boat, including harnesses, connectors, enclosures, and physical installation; commission it and troubleshoot problems on the water.
  • Create the diagrams and schematics that drive harness, enclosure, and printed circuit board work, and maintain an accurate power budget under worst-case loads.
  • Design simple printed circuit boards that consolidate commercial off-the-shelf boards, reducing parts, wiring, and failure points.
  • Select components and define grounding, shielding, and protection to make the system safe and serviceable.
  • Work with mechanical and software engineers to ensure the design is practical to build and maintain, while considering electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and marine compliance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with uncrewed or remotely operated marine vehicles, or other harsh-environment platforms.
  • Experience with high-reliability or mission-critical electrical systems in aerospace, defense, or industrial settings.
  • Experience with hybrid power, battery management, and energy storage.
  • Experience with reliability methods such as derating, failure mode and effects analysis, and mean time between failures.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

About the company

Amidon Heavy Industries builds an autonomous network of underwater vehicles (AUVs) that continuously monitor subsea infrastructure to detect threats and prevent failures, helping operators keep underwater assets secure and running. The system uses AUVs that form a network to gather data, monitor conditions, identify risks, and alert operators for proactive maintenance and rapid protection of critical assets. The approach focuses on an integrated subsea security and reliability network designed for long-term scalability in naval and commercial environments, aiming to lower downtime and reduce risk. The goal is to protect global subsea infrastructure by providing autonomous monitoring that increases uptime and supports secure, efficient operations for maritime, energy, and communications sectors.

What believers are saying

  • October 5, 2026 website shows active marine robotics offerings and software product Contour.
  • September 2026 LinkedIn shows Christopher Amidon hiring mechanical, simulation, perception, and electrical engineers.
  • September 2026 job boards list two on-site roles, signaling continued buildout.

What critics are saying

  • No public funding round exists, and private market trackers still show no round on record.
  • Standard Subsea remains 1-10 employees, limiting delivery capacity against subsea incumbents.
  • If Scout misses commercial reliability, customers choose established ROV fleets and kill the startup.

What makes Standard Subsea unique

  • Scout launches from a boat ramp, avoiding crewed support vessels and offshore mobilization.
  • Contour stores every mission’s bathymetry, sonar, and inspection data into one site record.
  • Standard Subsea targets pipelines, telecom cables, and foundations within 300 meters.
