What believers are saying

  • GTA VI launches November 19, 2026, with $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate Edition pricing.
  • Fiscal 2027 net bookings guided at $8.0B–$8.2B, marking ~20% growth and return to profitability.
  • Sony’s 'plays best on PS5' campaign leverages DualSense haptics and Tempest 3D AudioTech for PS5 upgrades.

What critics are saying

  • Digital-only launch excludes 30–40% of disc-preferring gamers, risking lower pre-order conversion despite $80 pricing.
  • Hitting 30M units in year one is critical; failure collapses $1.1B FY28 earnings target and triggers 40%+ stock drawdown.
  • 78% recurrent revenue exposure creates vulnerability if GTA Online fails to match GTA V’s $5B+ recurring trajectory.

What makes Take Two unique

  • Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto franchise dominates culture with over 200 million units sold globally.
  • 78% of revenue comes from recurrent spending via live-service titles like GTA Online and NBA 2K.
  • Mobile gaming now represents 50% of total revenue through Zynga, Social Point, and T2 Mobile Games.

GTA 6 will have no physical disc release: new report says the download code box is all gamers will get.

GTA 6 will have no physical disc release: new report says the download code box is all gamers will get. Alex Gherzo June 27, 2026 Physical media champions' hopes were dashed over the past week when a back-and-forth narrative about Grand Theft Auto VI being released on disc ended with the news that developer Rockstar Games will not release a true physical copy of the highly anticipated title. A few reports gave fans who want to own the media they buy a lifeline, but it now seems GTA 6 will have no physical release. When GTA 6 launched on Thursday, gamers discovered that the "physical copy" of the game was merely a box containing a code for a digital download, not a traditional disc. Rumors began swirling that this was a temporary measure aimed at combating piracy, and that a true physical copy of the game would be released sometime after launch. A Polish outlet, ppe.pl (via Dexerto), reported that Graczdari, a "physical release insider and video game leaker" from Europe, said that a GTA 6 physical release would come in December. But the most promising evidence came from an X account called GTA 6 Info, which posted a screenshot of a response from Rockstar's customer support division, which seemingly assured the user that GTA 6 would have "a physical copy during the following months." Many gamers were relieved that GTA 6 would seemingly get a real physical release rather than a dressed-up digital download masquerading as one, although others were more suspicious. The email screenshot is poorly written, with grammatical errors, which is usually a telltale sign of a fake. And while it seemed this person was told a physical copy would happen after the initial release, Rockstar has yet to comment on the issue publicly, despite a sizable fan outcry; why let something like this fester and cast a dark cloud over the game's pre-order launch when a simple answer would set everything right? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which spoke to "a source with knowledge of the plans," that's because all of this reporting was false, and there are "no plans for Grand Theft Auto VI discs to be printed." However, it seems the email GTA 6 Info claimed to have received from Rockstar Support was real, though poorly worded (beyond the grammatical errors). According to The Hollywood Reporter's source, the "following months" mentioned in the email referred to the months after the pre-sales period began, meaning over the next few months, and the "physical copy" is the same empty box with a download code in it. In other words, the email was essentially a reiteration of information everyone already had. The Hollywood Reporter also explains some seemingly odd aspects of the GTA 6 rollout. For example, why even bother with a "physical release" if it only has a download code in it? Evidently, this is to head off a potential antitrust suit. In 2021, Sony was sued for antitrust violations for preventing third-party retailers like GameStop and Best Buy from selling download codes for PlayStation games. That suit was settled as recently as April of this year. So, Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive are likely releasing "physical copies" of GTA 6 to give Best Buy, GameStop, and other retailers the opportunity to sell the game, avoiding similar legal trouble. Now, Rockstar can sell GTA 6 as a digital-only release while claiming there is a physical copy, and retailers will hardly care so long as they can make money from the game, too. The only ones hurt are their customers - the ones who would like a hard copy of GTA 6, at least. The Hollywood Reporter also correctly points out the devastating effect this will have on physical media. GTA 6 is perhaps the most anticipated video game of all time, an event 13 years in the making. It's going to be a massive hit, with its success such a foregone conclusion that other companies have moved their previous November releases out of its way. If ever a game was backlash-proof, it's this one. It's the perfect vehicle to push for the elimination of physical game releases, something industry figures have said they want. And once gamers are conditioned to accept digital-only releases, it won't be long before other companies follow suit, choosing not to spend money on making discs. There have been pockets of resistance to GTA 6 skipping a physical release, such as a couple of retailers refusing to stock the game. But unless enough gamers refuse to buy GTA 6 unless it gets a physical release, and the game's sales take a major hit, it won't do much good.

GTA 6 release date confirmed: What day it comes out and on what platforms it can be played.

GTA 6 release date confirmed: What day it comes out and on what platforms it can be played. Topics of the day / News Find out when the game of the year comes out, why the PC version will have to wait, and the estimated date for the start of global pre-order. The mystery is over. After years of theories, massive leaks and a tense wait, Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have put an end to speculation. Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) now has a day marked on the calendar and the marketing machine is ready to start ahead of the home stretch of the year. If you want to know exactly when you can roam the streets of a modern Vice City alongside Lucia and Jason, in this article we'll tell you all the official details of its release, the confirmed platforms and the future of the game on PC. The official release date of GTA 6. After several internal adjustments to ensure the maximum graphic and technical polish of the game, Take-Two Interactive officially and definitively confirmed in its latest financial report that GTA 6 will launch worldwide on November 19, 2026. This date is not a simple rumor; it is backed by the company's economic projections for investors, where they estimate reaching record revenues of more than $8 billion mainly thanks to the game's debut in the penultimate month of the year. This rules out any fear of a further delay moving the title to 2027. Confirmed platforms for the release of GTA 6. Rockstar Games has decided to bet fully on current technology to squeeze the RAGE engine to the max. For this reason, the video game will completely leave behind the previous generation of consoles. The confirmed platforms for launch day are: * PlayStation 5 (full support from day one) * Xbox Series X (premium resolution and performance) * Xbox Series S (optimized version for Microsoft's digital console) The game will take advantage of the speed of the SSD drives of these systems to eliminate load times between interiors and the gigantic map of Leonida (the fictional state based on Florida where the game is set). What will happen with GTA 6 on PC and when could it come out? One of the most frequently asked questions among the gaming community is whether GTA 6 will be available on computers on the same November 19. The official answer is no. Rockstar Games maintains its traditional 'consoles first' strategy, the same formula they successfully applied with historic releases like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. The game will not have a simultaneous release on PC to avoid initial piracy and allow the team to focus on closed hardware optimization. When will it arrive on PC? Although there is no official date from the developers, industry analysts estimate, based on the company's track record, that the version for computers (via Rockstar Games Launcher and presumably Steam) will launch between late 2027 and mid-2028, approximately 12 to 18 months after the console debut. When pre-orders start and the next GTA 6 trailer. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the strong promotional campaign will begin during the summer of this year. This means that at the end of June or the beginning of July 2026 the long-awaited trailer 3 for GTA 6 will be released. Along with the release of this new video preview, pre-orders will officially open worldwide on the digital stores of PlayStation Store and Xbox Marketplace (from which the wishlist has already been enabled), as well as reservations for physical editions at the main major retailers. It is expected that different versions will be announced, including everything from the standard edition to sought-after collector's editions with exclusive physical and digital content. Take-Two's GTA Online generated $5B over a decade, boosting stock ahead of GTA VI launch

Take-Two Interactive received a boost after leaks revealed Grand Theft Auto Online has generated approximately $5 billion in revenue over the past decade, primarily through Shark Cards, an in-game currency purchased with real money. This figure is particularly significant given that GTA V's development cost was reportedly around $235 million. The leaks also disclosed that some players have spent extraordinary amounts within the game, with individual purchases exceeding $1 million. This demonstrates the strength of the game's monetisation model. Take-Two is preparing to launch GTA VI later this year alongside a new version of GTA Online. If the next iteration replicates similar spending patterns, it could establish another extended period of high-margin revenue for the company.

Take-Two lays off AI head and team two months after CEO touted 'actively embracing generative AI

Take-Two Interactive has laid off its head of AI, Luke Dicken, alongside an unspecified portion of its AI team, just two months after CEO Strauss Zelnick said the Grand Theft Auto 6 publisher was "actively embracing generative AI". Dicken, who joined Take-Two in January last year following a decade at Zynga, announced the departure on LinkedIn. He stated his team had been "developing cutting edge technology to support game development" for seven years, focusing on AI systems including large language models and diffusion models. The layoffs represent another twist in Take-Two's ambivalent relationship with generative AI. In March, Zelnick said he wasn't "worried about AI creating hits" as it's "backwards-looking". He later emphasised that "generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building" with Grand Theft Auto 6.

Take-Two has reportedly laid off its AI team, including the department head.

Take-Two has reportedly laid off its AI team, including the department head. - Apr 3, 2026 at 10:47am EDT Rockstar and Grand Theft Auto parent company Take-Two Interactive has reportedly had another round of layoffs, but instead of what you might expect from today's industry, where people are laid off because the studio believes a Generative AI (GenAI) tool can take over, it's the people who are supposed to be leading the GenAI charge getting laid off. Spotted by Kotaku (via PC Gamer), the now-former head of AI for Take-Two, Luke Dicken, shared on his personal LinkedIn page, "It's truly disappointing that I have to share with you that my time with T2 - and that of my team - has come to an end." Dicken's comments seem to imply that his entire department, or at least the people who reported to him, have also been cut, but it's unclear exactly how many former Take-Two developers have been impacted by these cuts. "We've been developing cutting edge technology to support game development now for seven years," Dicken added. "These folks know how to match innovation and novel problem solving approaches with strong product design chops to create systems that empower people throughout the development workflow." Take-Two has reportedly declined to comment on the situation, but these cuts are at the very least curious, especially when Take-Two's chief executive officer, Strauss Zelnick, has seemingly tried to walk a line of being open to GenAI tools while also being one of the few c-suite executives out there adamant that GenAI will not be the solution to creating hit games, especially if you're talking about creating hits on the scale of GTA. "On the topic of AI, I've been enthusiastic since the beginning," Zelnick told investors in February during a recent financial report. "This company's products have always been built with machine learning and artificial intelligence. We've actually always been a leader in the space, and right now we have hundreds of pilots and implementations across our company, including within our studios. And we're already seeing instances where generative AI tools are driving costs and time efficiencies." During that same briefing, though, Zelnick was clear that not only did Rockstar not use GenAI tools for Grand Theft Auto VI, it does not need to, nor should it. "That said, do I think tools by themselves create great entertainment properties? No, there's no evidence that that's the case and it won't be the case in the future." "Specifically with regards to Grand Theft Auto 6, GenAI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That's what differentiates them. They're built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood. They're not procedurally generated, they shouldn't be. That's what makes great entertainment." Then, just last month, Zelnick went further in an interview with The Game Business, where he laid out the clear limitations that those who have drunk the GenAI Kool-Aid seem to miss. "I think the bear case for big entertainment companies is somehow that AI tools will mean everyone can create hits, but that doesn't stand to reason. These tools may help you create assets, but that won't help you create hits." "The notion that somehow new tools would allow an individual to push a button and generate a hit and bring it to millions of consumers around the world, it's a laughable notion. It's just never been the case with entertainment. Right now [in music] there are programs that allow you to put out a prompt and get a professionally recorded song spit back out at you. It sounds like a song, but I defy you to listen to it more than once. It's great to send as a greeting card to your partner on their birthday, but that's about it." It's unclear where these cuts leave Take-Two and its AI/GenAI strategy going forward, but if there's any major publisher out there that could survive without going all-in on GenAI like other companies, it's Take-Two, who are likely about to enjoy another decade-plus of having one of if not the best-selling game in their portfolio every year, once GTA VI is finally out, and even if it got delayed again, GTA V would probably still sell another million copies in the meantime. And that's just one of the major franchises that hit the top of the sales charts every year under Take-Two's belt.
