  • Perform work requiring sustained alertness and concentration, including computer work for 40 to 70 percent of the time; stand or walk considerably; regularly lift lightweight objects of 20 pounds or less; assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients; and assume minor straining or fatiguing positions and motions.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Work under provider direction to provide general support to the medical assistant and practice, including patient care competencies specific to the population served.
  • Float between medical office practices, sometimes with short notice.
  • Prepare patients for visits, including taking histories and vital signs and performing routine hearing, vision, or point-of-care testing.
  • Input data from patient questionnaires.
  • Set up rooms for procedures.
  • Act as a chaperone for providers.
  • Prepare instruments for reprocessing.
  • Maintain documentation standards and review charts before appointments to ensure requests and documents are in place.
  • Accurately document required information in patient charts.
  • Schedule outside tests or procedures for patients in other departments or facilities, such as x-ray or MRI.
  • Coordinate admissions and referrals.
  • Clean exam rooms and stock them with supplies as needed.
  • Conduct daily inventory of supplies and report items to be ordered.
  • Assist patients with check-in and check-out.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments in the electronic medical record system as required.
  • Answer phones and direct calls appropriately.
  • Confirm upcoming patient appointments.
  • Assist with completing patient forms, including workers' compensation, FMLA, and disability forms.
  • Attend staff, educational, or other meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by medical assistants, nurses, the practice manager, or providers within the role's scope.
