Requirements
  • Current UVA student status is required.
  • Federal Work Study eligibility is required.
  • No prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Work in one of the School of Medicine’s Shared Resource cores under the mentorship of the director.
  • Attend three lectures on cancer research and two cancer research seminars each semester.
  • Complete lab safety training.
  • Perform basic lab techniques such as pipetting, measuring, and solution preparation.
  • Shadow researchers and laboratory technicians.
  • Perform scientific writing and data entry.
  • Set up and clean up experiments.
  • Attend laboratory seminars and meetings.
  • Perform basic animal handling.
  • Perform analysis for experiments involving cancer, reproduction, vaccines, and fundamental biological science.
  • Process samples, perform chemical modifications, and load mass spectrometers for flow cytometry and cell sorting work.
  • Follow standard procedures carefully and document the work.
