Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a manufacturing engineering organization refining electro-mechanical components, assemblies, process documentation, tooling, and test methods for efficacy, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly to develop product architecture optimized for reliability, quality, and cost.
  • Specify, design, document, and procure equipment for each process step.
  • Plan, budget, and provide production equipment to meet manufacturing capacity requirements.
  • Define lean manufacturing process flows to maximize production efficiency.
  • Author process failure mode and effects analyses to identify and address potential manufacturing defects and minimize patient-safety risks.
  • Validate manufacturing equipment and processes for efficacy and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Maintain and improve production quality, yield, cost, and capacity.
  • Maintain compliance with the medical device quality system, including corrective action closure, discrepant material disposition, and Engineering Change Order implementation.
  • Evaluate and help select suppliers for mechanical parts when required.
  • Help resolve supplier quality issues.
  • Update and revise Manufacturing Process Instructions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Address line-support issues and document and report manufacturing-process variances, problems, issues, and concerns.
  • Provide production personnel with expectations and performance feedback regularly during the production process.
  • Understand, train personnel, and enforce adherence to applicable Department Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures in the Quality System.
  • Maintain accessible, up-to-date training records for Manufacturing Process Instructions and Quality System documents.
  • Assist in setting and attaining quarterly and annual production goals.
  • Learn and enforce company safety policies and practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives by providing feedback, identifying root causes, and solving problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • An M.S. degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in new product introduction, manufacturing, or design engineering supporting mid- to high-volume complex mechanism manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, metal injection molding, crimping, welding, soldering, and adhesive joining.
  • Quantitative process development skills in process failure mode and effects analysis, tolerance analysis, design of experiments, statistical process control, measurement system analysis, and process capability index.
  • Experience with mechanical computer-aided design software such as SolidWorks and product lifecycle management software such as Agile.
  • Prior experience with design control processes for medical devices.
  • Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical-device manufacturing environment.

Intuitive leases 316,000-sq-ft facility in Penang to manufacture surgical instruments, create 1,200 jobs by 2032

Intuitive, the global leader in minimally invasive care and pioneer of robotic-assisted surgery, has signed a lease agreement with Penang Development Corporation for a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia. The 316,000-square-foot site in Bandar Cassia Technology Park will produce surgical instruments and electromechanical devices for Intuitive's da Vinci surgical system. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. The investment reflects Intuitive's commitment to Asia Pacific, where its da Vinci systems have treated more than 2.5 million patients across 13 markets over two decades. The expansion aims to support growing demand for robotic-assisted surgery across the region and strengthen Penang's position as a MedTech manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
