About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related engineering or science field, and/or five years of experience in the relevant areas.
  • Experience with UNIX, IRIX, and Solaris operating systems.
  • Experience with Perl, Python, and shell scripting.
  • A background in mathematics related to orbital mechanics and radar analysis.
  • Knowledge of signal-processing concepts, radar search and tracking, and synthetic-aperture-radar mapping.
  • Experience with MATLAB, MATE, Mathematica, Satellite Tool Kit, and Missile Conversion Tool.
  • Knowledge of phased-array radar principles.
  • A thorough understanding of radar design, performance, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Experience simulating radars in large, complex systems.
  • Experience developing radar-model requirements for large-scale system simulations.
  • Experience performing radar requirements or performance analysis using models and simulations.
  • Experience with large-scale system simulation verification and validation.
  • Knowledge of Ballistic Missile Defense concepts and one or more BMDS radars, such as AN/TPY-2, Cobra Dane, UEWRs, GBR-P, or SBX.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain analysis results to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required United States Department of Defense security clearance and satisfy the associated United States citizenship requirement.
  • Ability to handle loads weighing 20–30 pounds occasionally.
  • Availability to work extended hours or weekends and provide on-call support outside normal working hours.
Responsibilities
  • Reduce and analyze track data for a ground-based phased-array radar site.
  • Mentor computer and radar operations staff.
  • Develop and refine operational procedures and checklists.
  • Use MATLAB and Mathematica to reduce and analyze data and report trends and radar-track performance.
  • Analyze hardware diagnostic outputs to determine anomalies for troubleshooting.
  • Develop mathematical algorithms for array signal processing, performance prediction and analysis, and radar-return data analysis.
  • Apply mathematical and algorithmic knowledge to define system performance related to radar tracking, target discrimination, computing loads and processing thresholds, and system engagement timelines.
  • Perform trajectory analysis and provide customer insight into radio-frequency and infrared signature data products.
  • Use digital simulation tools and perform original programming as needed for analysis and data manipulation.
  • Document mathematical and statistical analysis results in formal presentations and present analysis results at team meetings and customer reviews.
  • Recommend system modifications needed to maintain radar and computer system performance within written specifications.
  • Maintain site internal calibration satellite lists.
  • Write and execute test plans for local test and evaluation of mission-software versions and evaluate those versions for anomalies and degradation.
  • Document unusual or unique system events in Problem Reports.
  • Generate Standard Change Forms when appropriate to document software anomalies.
  • Maintain Problem Report and Standard Change Form files and make them available for government review.
  • Provide technical inputs for the site Operations Approval Review Board, maintain applicable Standard Change Forms, and recommend priorities based on criticality.
  • Write Hardware Modification Requests and submit them to the appropriate review board.
  • Use system data-reduction functions to extract and analyze data.
  • Review software specifications against source code.
  • Review system-performance data to identify degraded or abnormal performance.
  • Analyze system performance and events at the request of management and military operations personnel, including false launch and predicted-impact messages, abnormal daily uncorrelated-target rates, unusual radar or computer hangs, Category-1 satellite misses, and electromagnetic interference.
  • Monitor AN/FPS-132 radar and computer-system performance, including tactical files such as the space-track catalog, tasking file, and site-penetration file, for corruption, abnormal data, or overflow.
  • Provide on-call support outside normal working hours.
  • Develop and maintain checklists for site radar and MMCO personnel.
  • Perform other analysis duties as directed by management.
  • Work in a computing-center environment and travel overnight or on weekends when required.
