About the job

Requirements
  • At least 10 years of experience in software quality and test engineering, including at least 5 years leading quality teams, with a track record of building a quality function and staffing it cost-effectively as the company grows.
  • Experience taking over a capable but inconsistent quality organization and raising standards across teams by spreading effective practices rather than rebuilding the organization.
  • A strong hands-on foundation in test automation, including end-to-end, API, and desktop or Electron user-interface automation in continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, as well as test environments; ability to work deeply on test architecture and flaky-test root causes.
  • Experience shifting quality left so engineers own the quality of their work and the quality team builds the system without becoming a gate that delays delivery.
  • A data-driven approach to defining quality metrics such as escaped defects, change failure rate, and test stability, setting objectives and key results against them, and improving them.
  • Experience with risk-based testing for integration-heavy products operating across multiple customer configurations and environments.
  • Ability to build a long-term quality roadmap and broker decisions with engineering leaders on architecture and testability.
  • Experience influencing Engineering, Product, Support, and executives without formal authority and communicating across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hiring and people-management experience for distributed teams across time zones, including hiring, onboarding, career frameworks, and performance management.
  • Experience managing quality tooling and vendor relationships, such as test management platforms, outsourced quality assurance, or test environment providers.
  • Ability to ask effective questions, begin with the smallest change that adds value, and use artificial intelligence tools to make quality work faster and broader.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Quality team while keeping it embedded in product teams; run a shared operating cadence, priorities, standards, and roadmap across embedded quality engineers, spreading effective practices and standardizing where useful while allowing beneficial local differences.
  • Own the quality system by providing strategy, risk assessment, tooling, environments, coaching, and visibility so developers own the quality of what they build; standardize test case management, suite organization, and continuous integration integration across product areas.
  • Integrate test strategy and risk into planning with Product, Engineering, Design, and Clinical, defining what to test, at what level, and why, and keeping coverage efficient by deduplicating unit, API, and end-to-end tests.
  • Establish a risk-based release lifecycle across product areas, including pre-release risk assessment, radiologist-persona test cases, a common minimum smoke-test baseline, and explicit testing expectations for hotfixes; use risk assessments to determine the product areas, integrations, environments, and customer workflows affected by each change; evolve go/no-go decisions into an organization-wide definition of readiness that accounts for customers’ quality-control processes and Rad AI change-management flexibility.
  • Define radiologist personas and representative workflows with Product and Clinical, expose the team to radiologist workflows through shadowing, customer recordings, and product telemetry, incorporate customer-matched environments such as Windows workstations, dictation systems, PACS/RIS integrations, and site-specific configurations into testing, and determine where exploratory and manual testing add more value than automation.
  • Own test stability end to end, including failure triage, policies for quarantining and fixing flaky tests, stable test environments built with platform and infrastructure teams, and rationalization of duplicated and low-value coverage.
  • Define and report consistent quality metrics across product areas, including customer-found versus internally found defects, escaped defects by product area, change failure rate, test stability, and time to detect; set quality objectives and key results tied to company goals, publish a company-level quality dashboard, and run quarterly quality reviews with Engineering and Product leadership.
  • Partner with incident-review owners, Support, and Customer Success to ensure corrective actions become tests, observability, or fixes; use incident and customer-defect learnings to update regression coverage and risk profiles; maintain a quality bar for root-cause analyses and learn from customers without becoming a Tier 2 support desk.
  • Establish evaluation practices for non-deterministic artificial-intelligence outputs, such as speech recognition and generated impressions, with machine-learning and product teams.
  • Partner with Clinical, Security, and Compliance to reflect patient impact in severity assessments and support HIPAA, auditability, and regulatory expectations for clinical artificial intelligence.
  • Document quality standards, build a Quality community of practice across product teams, run Quality Week, office hours, and demos, and return quality feedback to the engineers who build the products.
  • Hire, coach, and develop quality engineers; own the Test Automation Engineer career framework; manage quality tooling, vendors, and test-infrastructure costs; and use artificial intelligence to increase the efficiency and reach of quality work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in health technology or a regulated environment, including HIPAA, protected health information, or SOC 2, and ideally medical-device software practices such as Software as a Medical Device, IEC 62304, or ISO 14971 risk management.
  • Familiarity with radiology workflows and systems, including PACS, RIS, EHR, dictation platforms such as PowerScribe or Fluency, HL7/FHIR, FHIRcast, or DICOM.
  • Experience evaluating machine-learning or artificial-intelligence systems in production, such as speech-recognition accuracy or generated-text quality, where outputs are non-deterministic.
  • Experience owning performance, load, or reliability testing and partnering closely with incident management.
  • Experience leading a multi-team quality organization that includes managers or staff-level engineers.
  • Experience building or scaling a quality function at a high-growth startup.

Exclusive: Rad AI expands partnership with flagship health system Yale New Haven.

Exclusive: Rad AI expands partnership with flagship health system Yale New Haven. Yale New Haven Health will deploy Rad AI's radiology tools across its multi-network health system while co-developing and clinically testing new radiology technologies. California-based Rad AI, a generative AI radiology workflow company, is extending its partnership with Connecticut-based Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) to deploy its reporting technology across the health system's imaging network. "Yale was our first big academic site," Dr. Elizabeth Bergey, radiologist and chief clinical officer at Rad AI, told MobiHealthNews. "It's been a partnership where we've grown to trust each other and work with each other very closely to help develop a big part of what Rad AI provides now," Bergey said. Rad AI offers radiologists generative AI tools to help streamline workflows, such as physician dictation and follow-up care management. Its genAI-enabled reporting software helps radiologists create reports quickly by automating portions of the reporting process and reducing dictation time. The company's Omni Impressions generates AI-enabled report impressions after a radiologist dictates the raw findings, a tool that makes Rad AI stand out to radiologists, YNHHS' Dr. Melissa Davis, vice chair for imaging informatics, radiology and biomedical imaging and associate professor of radiology and biomedical imaging, told MobiHealthNews. "Rad AI is at the forefront, especially with its Omni Impressions tool," Davis said. "This is the one tool that if you ask a radiologist broadly, 'What's made my day better?' An impression generator is what it is, and Rad AI was at the forefront of that market." Yale New Haven will implement several of Rad AI's technologies, including Omni Impressions, across its multi-site network, which includes more than 16 outpatient imaging centers and five hospital campuses. Still, Davis said, the health system's goal is not to implement products but rather to co-develop new technologies with Rad AI that meet its specific needs. In addition to implementing Rad AI's existing tech into YNHHS, the company's now flagship healthcare system, the organizations will co-develop new specialized radiology-focused technologies that will be used and clinically tested at YNHHS. "There's a lot of questions that I think that they can help us solve on the ground, and so I'm not really thinking about it from a product standpoint at this point," Davis said. "Yes, we needed the reporter, like, that was the product for us, but my hope is that we can generate an actual partnership that starts to align with our needs and with their roadmap going forward." Davis said one of the health system's pain points, though Rad AI has not been solidified as the point of collaboration for this specifically, is data management. "We have a lot of information, and we don't know how to surface the questions that we actually need answered," Davis said. "How many radiologists should we have today? Are there certain services where we should staff up on certain times of the day? How can we do more predictive analysis, so that our radiologists can be more flexible in their scheduling is a huge pain point for us. How do we track productivity appropriately?" The partners say future technologies that will be developed and tested have yet to be nailed down, but many ideas are being explored regarding how to co-develop those technologies, and Rad AI said it has a system to meet such challenges. "We are hiring the best scientists there are. We are known for making a personalized model for impressions, and that kind of base skill set is what we have, which is building custom models for radiology-specific tasks," Bergey said. "We have some great ideas, and I'm very excited on how we can expand together because it is a great partnership." HIMSS is hosting the one-day AI Executive Leadership Summit in Boston June 24, 2026, followed by its AI in Healthcare Forum June 25-26. Register separately for the two events here and here.
