Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED is required.
  • One year of experience in the maintenance or operation of commercial-sized landscape equipment, including tractors and riding mowers, is required.
  • One year of experience in landscape maintenance or construction is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and the university community is required.
  • The ability to work in a team environment and independently is required.
  • A stable work history and work ethic are required.
  • Punctual attendance and availability for work are required.
  • The ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 pounds is required.
  • The ability to work in adverse conditions, including weather, dust, noise, heights, and fumes, is required.
  • A Class C driver's license is required.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
  • A current three-year driving record from the current state of residence must be provided.
Responsibilities
  • Safely operate landscaping equipment, including riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers, push mowers, string trimmers, cultivators, edgers, and other tools necessary for landscape care.
  • Install, replace, and maintain campus landscape, including turf, shrubs, and hardscape, to university standards, and report property conditions that may pose safety hazards.
  • Irrigate new and existing turf, trees, and shrubs; follow water restrictions; perform or report minor irrigation-system repairs; and assist with installing small irrigation systems.
  • Pick up litter, empty trash receptacles, and keep university properties neat and orderly.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and power tools, maintain preventive-maintenance schedules, report repairs, clean equipment, maintain fluid levels, and assist with supply and equipment inventory.
  • Clean, maintain, and operate a university vehicle while maintaining an acceptable driver's rating.
  • Follow written and oral instructions, maintain the supervisor's work schedule, complete routine paperwork including weekly electronic time reports and other university electronic forms, and work independently and as part of a team at various university locations.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, follow safety rules, and promote and exercise good safety habits.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A degree or trade-specific licensure or certification is preferred.
  • More than one year of experience in landscape maintenance, construction, repair, or operation of commercial landscape equipment, including riding mowers, tractors, loaders, and sweepers, in a commercial or institutional setting is preferred.
  • More than two years of experience in landscape maintenance or construction is preferred.
