Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; registered nurses hired with an associate degree have two years to complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Hold a valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
  • Hold Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • Complete the Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Administration Guidelines provider course.
  • Have a minimum of two years of recent oncology experience.
  • Have recent experience administering chemotherapy and biotherapy agents.
Responsibilities
  • Assess assigned patients and evaluate plans, including documentation of nursing care.
  • Report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions and vital signs; modify treatment plans based on patient responses, conditions, and physician orders; and review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Consider patient age and culture during treatments and provide needed information about treatment plans.
  • Provide psychological support to nurture a compassionate environment.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments in accordance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and physician orders.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients, families, and appropriate team members while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines such as HIPAA.
  • Use best practices for transitions of patient care and available resources to assist with discharge planning.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and provide patient care; seek assistance when needed.
  • Adapt to changing work demands and environments and safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in providing care and acclimating to the healthcare environment and direct patient care role.
  • Provide concise and constructive feedback when needed.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Oncology certification.
