Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad sign MoU to establish North India's first Brain & Spine Centre of Excellence. Discover more Health A-Z Guide Medical Facilities & Services * By Rohit Shishodia * September 21, 2026 * City Patients needing complex brain and spine surgery in North India may soon have access to more advanced technology closer to home. Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad have signed an MoU to establish North India's first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine, powered by Brainlab's Loop-X Mobile Imaging Robot. The new centre will bring together the medical expertise of Amrita Hospital with Brainlab's advanced imaging and surgical navigation technology. It will focus on complex brain and spine surgeries and will also serve as a centre for clinical training, technology demonstrations and knowledge sharing among surgeons and other healthcare professionals. At the heart of the centre will be Loop-X, a robotic mobile imaging system that can produce detailed 2D and 3D images inside the operating room. This means surgeons can see updated images during an operation, use them with surgical navigation and check the results before the patient leaves the operating room. This can be particularly useful during complicated brain and spine procedures, where even small differences in the position of an implant or the anatomy can matter. The system allows surgeons to take fresh images during surgery, check implant placement and get a clearer view of the area being treated. Its patient-specific imaging can also focus the scan on the required area, helping optimise radiation exposure. Loop-X combines robotic movement with 2D and 3D intraoperative imaging. Its large opening allows patients to be positioned in different ways, while the robotic design allows images to be taken again during surgery when clinically required. The system can also combine these images with Brainlab's navigation technology, giving the surgical team current information without having to interrupt the operation for imaging outside the operating room. Aseem Malhotra, Managing Director, Brainlab India, said the partnership would help bring advanced imaging and navigation technology closer to routine clinical practice in neuro and spine care. He said the technology would support connected surgical workflows, patient-specific imaging and accuracy checks during surgery. Dr Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said the centre would strengthen the hospital's capabilities for patients requiring complex neuro and spine care. According to him, advanced imaging and navigation can give clinical teams better visibility during surgery and allow them to verify the results inside the operating room itself. The proposed Centre of Excellence is also expected to become a hub for advanced brain and spine surgery, clinical learning and technology-led surgical innovation. Through the partnership, Brainlab and Amrita Hospital aim to expand access to specialised neuro and spine care for patients across North India.
