  • Understanding of related legal and regulatory standards and required loan documentation, consumer lending practices, credit structure, and appropriate collateral.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and industry banking compliance regulations and guidelines, and applicable laws and regulations related to lending functions; ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret bank policies, federal regulations, and other technical information.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and associated software, including Word and Excel; typing accuracy and speed of at least 50 words per minute; ability to operate photocopiers, scanners, and calculators used to perform job duties.
  • Excellent grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and editing skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, move quickly between tasks without loss of accuracy or composure, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail; ability to perform repetitive work consistently and accurately, find and correct errors, and communicate technical information verbally and in writing.

  • Must obtain an NMLS number assigned by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry, as required by law.
  • Must be able to work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
  • Must meet the physical demands of the role, including sitting; repetitive hand use; talking and hearing; occasional standing, walking, lifting, or reaching; operating office equipment; and routinely working at a computer for an average of 6–8 hours per day when necessary.
  • Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site when required or requested by management and maintain regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to climb or descend stairs in an emergency.
  • Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must have close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection of small defects or parts or operation and inspection of machines or measurement devices at close range.

Responsibilities
  • Assist branch employees with consumer loan applications and collect information from potential consumer borrowers.
  • Meet with loan customers, provide product information, rates, fees, and terms, obtain completed loan applications, and collect required loan documentation for specific loan products.
  • Enter data in DecisionPro.
  • Provide required disclosures to applicants and ensure disclosures, financial statements, income verification, cash flows, title insurance commitments, and appraisals are reviewed before loan approval.
  • Pull credit reports, verify information, and underwrite loan requests according to bank policies, procedures, and regulations; counsel applicants; analyze financial and related data; and determine appropriate pricing and loan structure.
  • Document loan files with comments and conversation logs.
  • Use approved lending authority to approve consumer loans and process denials according to bank policies and procedures.
  • Issue notices of incomplete or inactive applications, make counteroffers, and process withdrawn applications.
  • Perform second reviews of denials and other loans that were not originated.
  • Analyze collateral for secured consumer loans and inspect collateral as needed.
  • Complete required loan checklists.
  • Work with Consumer Loan Processors, other bank departments, title companies, and state and county motor vehicle departments to perfect the bank's lien position and limit risk.
  • Communicate loan decisions to branch employees, coordinate loan closings with applicants and branch employees, provide closing instructions, ensure all loan documentation is received before closing, and close loans with customers as needed.
  • Give appropriate staff direction to review loan packages before final loan documents are prepared and printed.
  • Work closely with the Loan Servicing Team to close loans efficiently and on time.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control requirements.
  • Enter accurate Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data in DecisionPro.
  • Work the past-due list and contact customers for payment; stay current with lending and collections regulations; and work the loans-maturing list to ensure loans are paid or refinanced by maturity dates.
  • Work the exception list, including the collateral exception list, and obtain proper documentation to perfect the bank's lien position in a timely manner.
  • Assist with training employees in related job duties.
  • Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems.
  • Participate in community service and bank-sponsored activities that support the bank's mission and values.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers, demonstrating self-governance, courtesy, and respect.
  • Complete required bank and OnCourse training courses within assigned time frames.
  • Represent the bank professionally, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate a positive attitude, maintain good attendance and punctuality, adapt to bank and customer needs, keep the work area tidy, and protect customer privacy.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings, including consumer loan meetings, understand the information provided, and communicate topics to other employees.
  • Maintain working knowledge of cash flows and credit authorizations, assist with completing these documents as requested, and present credit authorizations to the appropriate loan committees for approval.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to accomplish job duties and provide in-person contact with customers.
  • Actively use the service pledge during customer encounters: smile, make eye contact, refer to customers by name, offer viable options, acknowledge customers promptly, put customers first, and end with “Thank you.”
