US confirms weapons deployed in orbit, space brief 15 Sep 2026.

US confirms weapons deployed in orbit, space brief 15 Sep 2026. Air Force Secretary Meink confirms US has on-orbit space weapons for the first time. Vega C delivers ESA's FLEX and Sentinel-3C. 218 orbital launches in 2026. Top stories. US military confirms weapons deployed in orbit for the first time. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink announced Monday at the Air, Space & Cyber Conference that the United States now has "on-orbit space control weapons capable of defending the joint force against hostile adversary action." No details on the weapon type, quantity, or host platform were disclosed. Meink said specifics would not benefit deterrence and declined to confirm whether the systems have been tested. The confirmation formalizes what Space Force officials had been hinting at for years as the Pentagon shifted from silence on orbital warfare to open discussion of defensive countermeasures, on-orbit combat, and ground-based satellite-disabling capabilities. For the tracking community, the announcement raises obvious questions about which cataloged objects carry these payloads and whether any previously unattributed maneuvers in the public catalog were related. Vega C deploys ESA's FLEX and Sentinel-3C in dual-payload mission. Avio's Vega C lifted off from Kourou at 01:21 UTC on September 15, delivering two European satellites to orbit. Sentinel-3C separated about one hour after launch, followed by ESA's FLEX (Fluorescence Explorer) 56 minutes later after two additional AVUM+ upper stage burns. This was Vega C's second flight of 2026 and Avio's second launch as an independent operator after splitting from Arianespace. FLEX carries a Fluorescence Imaging Spectrometer designed to detect the faint glow plants emit during photosynthesis, a first-of-its-kind measurement from orbit. Sentinel-3C joins the existing 3A and 3B constellation monitoring oceans, land, ice, and atmosphere, and will eventually replace the aging 3A, which has been operating well past its seven-year design life. Pentagon's space weapons disclosure: why now? Breaking Defense's conference coverage digs into the timing and strategic logic behind Meink's announcement. The public acknowledgment appears calibrated as a deterrence signal aimed at Beijing and Moscow, both of which have tested or deployed counterspace capabilities in recent years. The disclosure follows a broader Pentagon pattern of gradually declassifying space domain awareness posture while keeping operational specifics classified. Satellogic expanding dod business ahead of October launch. Satellogic is preparing to launch three satellites next month: two NewSat Mark VI birds with optical intersatellite links and one Mark V intended for on-orbit transfer to a customer under the company's Sovereign Space Systems program. The company's first Merlin satellite, designed for continuous 1-meter resolution Earth observation, was previously announced for an October launch but has not been confirmed for this specific mission. The launches support Satellogic's pivot from selling individual images to persistent site monitoring through its Aleph Observer platform. CEO Emiliano Kargieman said Merlin will enable monitoring of a practically unlimited number of terrestrial sites, a capability he described as transformative for defense and intelligence customers who currently lack continuous theater-wide awareness. Satellogic adds six satellites to ONR's Slingshot III for faster autonomous intelligence

Satellogic has expanded its agreement with Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) to support the US Office of Naval Research's Slingshot III programme. The work will integrate six additional Satellogic NewSat Mark VI satellites into the Slingshot III architecture over the next 18 months. The company will conduct on-orbit activities and tests during 2027 and 2028, focusing on enhanced onboard data processing, system feasibility checks, and automated data filtering. These capabilities aim to accelerate the creation of actionable track data and enable more responsive planning across a distributed satellite system. Slingshot is a research and development initiative that leverages commercial space capabilities to advance low-latency maritime domain awareness. The programme demonstrates how accelerated image processing, object classification, and track generation can be performed using commercial satellites and onboard software.

Satellogic to launch three satellites in October including two with inter-satellite links

Satellogic will launch three new satellites in October 2026: two NewSat Mark VI satellites equipped with inter-satellite link (ISL) technology and one NewSat Mark V satellite. The ISL-equipped satellites can share information directly with each other in orbit, enabling faster decision-making without routing every command through ground stations. The Mark V satellite will expand Satellogic's sovereign Space Systems programme, which provides allied governments with dedicated, sovereign-controlled satellite capability. The programme includes Portugal's satellite purchase and India's dedicated capacity operated by Tata. "Launching these additional satellites builds out our Persistent Global Intelligence infrastructure with inter-satellite links that increasingly allow our satellites to work together as one coordinated system," said CEO Emiliano Kargieman. The ISL technology enables the constellation to communicate and retask itself autonomously, shifting from independent satellite operations to a connected network.

SATL surges as Satellogic turns revenue boom into profit milestone.

SATL surges as Satellogic turns revenue boom into profit milestone. JACK KELLOGG - UPDATED AUG. 23, 2026, 11:07 AM ET Satellogic Inc. stocks have been trading up by 8.11 percent following upbeat coverage of its expanding satellite imaging opportunities. Market insights for SATL traders. * Q2 EPS came in at -$0.13 versus -$0.02 expected, but revenue jumped 259% year over year to $15.9M, smashing the $9.6M consensus and delivering positive operating income and adjusted EBITDA. * Analysts at Cantor Fitzgerald trimmed their price target from $10 to $9 yet kept an Overweight rating, citing revenue and gross margin beats plus progress on Merlin, backlog, constellation growth, and vertical integration. * Roth Capital lowered its price target from $15 to $10 but maintained a Buy rating, pointing to strong core business growth, healthy remaining performance obligations, and rising customer adoption that support a profitability path. * A new Senior Vice President of Space Systems, Jamil Kawar, was hired to ramp global sales of sovereign constellations and space infrastructure, with a focus on government customers in MENA and Europe. Weekly Update Aug 17 - Aug 21, 2026: On Sunday, August 23, 2026 Satellogic Inc. stock [NASDAQ: SATL] is trending up by 8.11%! Discover the key drivers behind this movement as well as its expert analysis in the detailed breakdown below. Industrials industry expert: Analyst sentiment - positive Satellogic sits in an emerging but capital-intensive niche with extreme operating leverage and fragile fundamentals. Q2 revenue of $15.9M on a $17.7M LTM base highlights a sharp acceleration, and a 96.6% gross margin is best-in-class for geospatial data, but EBIT margin around -330% and free cash flow of -$14.3M underscore a highly loss-making model. Balance sheet liquidity is solid (current ratio 2.3, $113M cash), yet leverage is elevated (long-term debt ~$95M, debt/capital ~74%). Technically, SATL is consolidating after a sharp pullback, with weekly closes clustering in a tight 5.27-5.75 range and a modest positive bias into week-end at 5.73. Intraday 5-minute action shows active dip-buying below 5.50 with fading momentum above 5.80, suggesting range trading dominates rather than trend following. A clear actionable level is $5.25-5.30 support; long entries there with a stop around $5.05 and near-term profit-taking toward $6.00 are attractive while volume remains steady. Fundamentally, Q2 marked a genuine inflection: revenue beat by ~65%, adjusted EBITDA and operating income turned positive, and multiple brokers (Cantor, Roth) reaffirmed bullish ratings despite trimming targets ($9-10). New senior leadership in space systems should accelerate sovereign constellation and government sales. Versus broader Industrials and A&D, SATL offers superior growth but far weaker profitability and higher risk. Fair value skews higher; 9-12 month risk-adjusted target is $8, with key support at $5.25 and resistance at $7.00. Quick financial overview. Satellogic Inc. posted Q2 revenue of about $15.9M, a sharp 259% jump versus the prior year and well above the roughly $9.6M expectation. That strength pushed gross profit to $18.7M and, more importantly, yielded positive operating income of $0.27M and positive adjusted EBITDA, even though net income was still a loss of about $20.0M and EPS printed at -$0.13. For short-term traders, this mix says "turnaround in progress" rather than a finished story. Margins and ratios are still messy. Reported EBIT margin and profit margins are deep in negative territory, while gross margin sits around 96.6%, reflecting a high-margin data model sitting on top of heavy fixed costs. Valuation is rich on standard metrics, with a price-to-sales ratio near 27.6 and price-to-book close to 25.9, so SATL is trading as a high-expectation growth name rather than a value play. On the balance sheet, Satellogic Inc. shows roughly $112.8M in cash and short-term investments, working capital near $79.8M, and a current ratio around 2.3, giving it breathing room despite long-term debt of about $95.2M. Cash flow from operations is still negative at about -$8.6M for the quarter and free cash flow around -$14.3M, which keeps financing risk on the table if growth slows. Price action has been tight: weekly closes in the $5.29-$5.75 range and an intraday 5-minute candle showing a move from a $5.45 open to a $5.72 close after touching $5.78 point to steady dip-buying around the mid-$5s and resistance toward the high-$5s.
