About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 10 or more years of professional backend or backend-heavy engineering experience in platform systems, or equivalent depth, including meaningful ownership of large services or platforms.
  • The candidate must have strong Python expertise and experience designing service-oriented systems, including APIs, background jobs, idempotency, failure modes, and capacity planning.
  • The candidate must have deep hands-on experience with Celery or similar systems and message brokers in the AMQP or RabbitMQ class, including heartbeats, retries, queue splits, and operational debugging.
  • The candidate must have strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience, as well as practical Redis experience for coordination, rate limiting, circuit breaking, and concurrency correctness.
  • The candidate must have substantial cloud infrastructure experience with Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services, including services such as EC2, ALB, IAM, CloudWatch, S3, RDS, and proxy patterns, and must be comfortable leading Terraform changes.
  • The candidate must have experience building and deploying containers using Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes; multi-cloud networking is a plus.
  • The candidate must have substantial experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery in cloud environments.
  • The candidate must demonstrate security-minded engineering experience, including scoped IAM, TLS for data stores, network egress discipline, WAF, and rate-limiting concepts.
  • The candidate must have excellent judgment under ambiguity, written communication, and a record of raising team quality without blocking delivery.
  • The candidate must have experience in early-stage startup or similarly fast-moving, rapidly evolving environments and ideally have built products from zero to one.
  • The candidate must have experience driving cross-team alignment to ship impactful work through influence rather than authority.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience establishing engineering standards, component architectures, and development best practices.
  • The candidate must be able to establish responsible and effective practices for AI-assisted coding tools while maintaining correctness, security, and performance standards.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of RESTful APIs and asynchronous Celery workers for publishing, media processing, server-side ad insertion and video advertising template workflows, imports, and reporting.
  • Own the reliability and performance of distributed systems and workloads, including queue design, deduplication, chord and dispatch patterns, prefetch tuning, backpressure, and operational logging that supports incident response.
  • Drive data and integration decisions across PostgreSQL, Redis-backed coordination, object storage, and data-warehouse-backed reporting, including batching, limits, and cost-aware query patterns.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to Terraform and AWS changes affecting the application, including Elastic Beanstalk tiers, IAM, networking, WAF and rate limits, observability hooks, and phased rollouts.
  • Improve observability through structured logging, Prometheus-style metrics, Grafana, CloudWatch, and alarms connected to actionable on-call signals.
  • Define and evolve the testing strategy for critical paths, including unit and regression testing around task helpers and services, AI-driven testing, continuous-integration checks, and operational readiness for risky migrations.
  • Represent backend concerns in planning, design reviews, and incident-style discussions, and communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Anticipate scaling and complexity by proposing phased migrations, safer defaults, and long-term maintainability over short-term solutions.
  • Explore and guide the use of artificial intelligence in system design, performance tuning, and anomaly detection across distributed backend systems.
  • Drive improvements to internal tools and workflows that use artificial intelligence to enhance productivity, code quality, and observability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with authorization at scale, including role-based access control, attribute-based access control, or policy engines.
  • Experience with Druid, BigQuery, or large analytical query constraints.
  • Experience with multi-cloud networking.
  • Experience in media, entertainment, the creator economy, connected television, over-the-top media, server-side ad insertion, video advertising templates, content delivery networks, or edge processing.
  • Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.

Iowa-Ohio State gives CBS first CFB regular-season ratings weekend win since 2023.

Iowa-Ohio State gives CBS first CFB regular-season ratings weekend win since 2023. The last time CBS topped the ratings chart, Alabama defeated LSU in primetime before SEC rights left for ESPN/ABC. Less AI and more AA in your search results. Iowa and Ohio State averaged just shy of six million viewers on CBS, which might not be among the biggest college football game audiences this season, but it was enough to give the network its first weekend ratings win in almost three years. Per CBS, the highly anticipated Big Ten matchup averaged 5.966 million viewers, peaking at about seven million. That beat a trio of games on ABC that day, including Alabama vs. Mississippi State (5.1 million), Miami vs. Clemson (4.6 million), and Florida vs. Missouri (4.4 million). Other top ratings figures from this past weekend include Fox's Big Noon matchup between Michigan and Minnesota (4.1 million), Fox's Penn State vs. Northwestern broadcast (3.4 million), Auburn vs. Tennessee on ESPN (3.02 million), Notre Dame and UNC on ESPN (2.98 million), and NBC's presentation of Washington vs. USC (2.6 million). It marks the first time since Week 10 of the 2023 season that CBS has had a game at the top of the college football weekend. On November 4, No. 8 Alabama defeated No. 13 LSU in primetime, drawing 8.82 million viewers for what became the sixth-most-watched game of the 2023 college football regular season across all networks. It might not amount to too much by the time Ohio State-Michigan and several late-season SEC showdowns take the top TV number spots, but it's still a noteworthy notch for CBS, which, along with Fox, has been losing the battle against ESPN and ABC ever since the SEC jumped ship from CBS to them. Ironically, CBS may owe the extra boost to ESPN. The Worldwide Leader sent College GameDay to Iowa City this weekend instead of one of the games on its network or ABC. GameDay posted big numbers of its own, drawing 2.9 million viewers (and a final hour of 3.7 million), many of whom were likely influenced to watch the game later. For years, the SEC on CBS was the juggernaut of college football ratings, but when the league left for ESPN and CBS signed the Big Ten instead, that reign ended. It's no wonder the Tiffany Network hasn't topped the charts in so long. CBS probably shouldn't get too cozy up there. ABC has The Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m., not to mention No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 6 Alabama on Saturday night in primetime. CBS has a perfectly solid matchup between No. 13 Oregon and UCLA, but that's simply no match from an audience perspective.

Nashville Predators games coming to Fox's Atlanta TV station.

Nashville Predators games coming to Fox's Atlanta TV station. [email protected] September 30, 2026 Fox Television Stations is partnering with the E. W. Scripps Company's Scripps Sports to bring Nashville Predators hockey games to free broadcast TV in the Atlanta market. Most games from the Predators will air on a digital sub-channel of WAGA-TV (Channel 5, Fox) in Atlanta, replacing programming from Buzzr (Channel 5.3) when the games are live. A handful of games will also be available on WAGA's main broadcast signal, making them widely available to cable and satellite subscribers as well. The agreement adds Atlanta to a growing regional broadcast network established by Scripps Sports and the Predators under a multi-year media rights deal. The network now reaches eight markets outside Nashville across Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama. "Atlanta has a proud hockey history, and Fox 5 is excited to bring NHL action back to viewers across our community," Bill Schneider, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of WAGA, said in a statement on Wednesday. The Predators and Scripps Sports are entering the first season of their agreement, which provides regional television coverage of 85 games, including four preseason and 81 regular-season contests. WNPX (Channel 28) in Nashville serves as the flagship station for the regional network, which also includes stations in Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Jackson, Louisville, Lexington and Huntsville. At least four games will also be simulcast on Scripps-owned WTVF (Channel 5) in Nashville. Predators telecasts will include 30-minute pregame and postgame shows. The broadcast team includes Willy Daunic, Chris Mason, Hal Gill, Lyndsay Rowley and Kara Hammer.
