Student & Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellbeing, connection and belonging, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. The Assistant Director, Tatkon Center for New Students works collaboratively within the Cornell campus to support, advocate, and model the mission, goals, and values of the Tatkon Center, Student Involvment, and Student and Campus Life. In partnership with SCL and the broader campus community, The Assistant Director will help develop, implement, and assess orientation and continued orientation programs for new first-year and transfer students at Cornell. Including supporting a New Student Orientation (Fall model) with a focus on academic success and creating a sense of belonging. In addition, the AD will recruit, select, train, mentor, and supervise undergraduate student employees to support orientation programming needs.
As a member of the Tatkon Center team, the AD will assist with major Tatkon Center initiatives prioritized by the office. This is a full-time position and may require flexibility with work hours, including occasional nights and weekends.

- Familiarity with a decentralized institution and solid experience with quickly building and maintaining both broad and deep relationships with key stakeholders that support first-year and transfer students.
- Ability to multi-task and function as a team player in a small and collaborative office.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in student affairs or related field along with 3 to 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination
- Knowledge of the first-year experience, college transition, transfer student experience, and college student development
- Experience supervising and/or advising students
- Experience planning campus wide undergraduate orientation, as well as planning and implementing large-scale, inclusive, collaborative programs
- Willingness to work in a team oriented and collaborative environment
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student affairs or related field
- One year of post-graduate experience in student affairs or a related field.
- More than two years of direct student supervision and/or student development experience
- Experience with higher education module (online orientation) software and systems including; ADG, Slate, Campus Groups
- Affiliation/Involvement with professional associations such as NODA – Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education
