Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Six years of experience are required at the bachelor's level for Mechanical Engineer II, or nine years at the bachelor's level for Mechanical Engineer III.
  • Four years of experience are required at the master's level for Mechanical Engineer II, or seven years at the master's level for Mechanical Engineer III.
  • At least two years of experience in modification and missionization kit development for aircraft or military ground vehicles are required for Mechanical Engineer II.
  • At least five years of experience in modification and missionization kit development for aircraft or military ground vehicles are required for Mechanical Engineer III.
  • Experience with 3D computer-aided design packages is required.
  • Technical team lead experience is required for Mechanical Engineer III.
Responsibilities
  • Support the development of new design concepts using customer requirements, existing drawings, and on-site aircraft or ground vehicle surveys.
  • Convert design concepts and requirements into detailed designs for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and supporting piece parts using 3D computer-aided design software.
  • Use mock-ups or 3D-printed parts to verify fit and other functional requirements before committing to a final design.
  • Interpret and utilize geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Work with the structural analysis group and manufacturing to ensure designs meet performance requirements and can be efficiently manufactured.
  • Support aircraft or ground vehicle modification and mission kit development programs from initial site surveys through design and analysis, manufacturing, integration support, and project completion.
  • Prepare, review, and evaluate documentation, specifications, test plans, and procedures.
  • Develop briefing material for design review milestones, including SRR, PDR, and CDR, and support presentations to the customer.
  • Apply knowledge of industry practices, standards, and technology in the aviation and aerospace fields.
  • Assist with definition and trade-off studies supporting early design activities, and review, evaluate, and analyze design interfaces.
  • Develop or support engineering reports such as Weight and Balance Reports using calculated or actual weight data for new installations and removed systems or components.
  • Work under general supervision, follow established procedures, and solve routine problems in the engineering discipline.
  • Review and approve work products developed by other engineers, including engineering drawings and technical reports.
  • Depending on experience, provide daily supervision and direction to supporting engineers and drafting personnel on associated programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is desired.
  • Experience designing with composite materials is desired.
  • Technical team lead experience is preferred for Mechanical Engineer II.
