  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python; experience with Java or C++ is valuable.
  • Experience developing in Linux environments.
  • Experience building solutions with large language models, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, or other applied AI systems.
  • A strong foundation in machine learning, including evaluation, training, and problem decomposition.
  • Experience with Docker, networking, deployment scripts, and local model-serving tools.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch, Hugging Face, llama.cpp, Ollama, vLLM, or similar frameworks.
  • Familiarity with vector databases such as Milvus, FAISS, Qdrant, Chroma, or similar.
  • Experience building reliable systems with logging, watchdogs, crash recovery, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery, and field diagnostics.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex systems and established codebases.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% to build, test, deploy, and troubleshoot systems in the field.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of military systems, operational tactics, or tactical communications.

About the company

Archangel Imaging develops AI co-pilots and smart machines that work with human teams to protect assets and staff in remote environments. Its Argonaut AI cameras process data locally off-grid to detect threats, and GENIE provides GPS-denied navigation for drones and other unmanned systems. These devices are connected via the Cerebella mission management platform, which coordinates humans, AI, satellites, robots, and IoT sensors to act as a single security team. Their goal is to serve government, defense, law enforcement, first responders, and NGOs with long-endurance robotic solutions that address risks such as poaching, oil theft, and infrastructure security across large areas.

What believers are saying

  • Archangel updated Xnaut and Argonaut pages in 2026, signaling active product iteration.
  • Archangel won ATOM funding in 2022 for remote nuclear-site monitoring and surveillance.
  • Oxford and Syracuse footprints support transatlantic hiring, sales, and partner access.

What critics are saying

  • Archangel remains tiny, with roughly 25 employees and grant-heavy funding through 2024.
  • No public evidence shows large recurring contracts beyond pilots, deployments, and accelerator awards.
  • Larger defense autonomy rivals can outspend Archangel, compressing margins before 2027 scale-up.

What makes Archangel Autonomy unique

  • Xnaut delivers GNSS-denied sUAS autonomy over 100km without external infrastructure.
  • Argonaut provides self-contained edge computer vision with low false-positives and minimal emissions.
  • Archangel spans defense, conservation, rail, and security through platform-agnostic sensor fusion.
