Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience in the field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical role designing, developing, and releasing technical solutions and building production systems.
  • Strong background in system architecture and building scalable products or systems.
  • Ability to work with multiple moving parts and data sources and generate ideas for improving the technology stack and features.
  • Ability to use artificial intelligence tools such as Copilot, Cursor, or Claude appropriately, review their output, defend or override suggested code paths, and flag AI-assisted decisions in code reviews and submissions.
  • Experience working in a diverse, dynamic, and cross-cultural team.
  • Ability to work hands-on toward milestones, follow software guidelines, and apply agile principles.
  • Ability to communicate nuanced technical ideas clearly in remote brainstorming and written technical decisions.
  • Experience as an early engineering hire taking a technical product from scratch to scale, or ownership of real system design at a FAANG-tier engineering organization, including defending architectural decisions in design reviews.
  • Proficiency with Python-based backend programming, web frameworks such as Flask, Amazon Web Services, and RESTful API design and best practices.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems and debug production issues across multiple levels of the stack.
  • Collaborate with Business, Product, and Data Science teams to understand and solve customer pain points at scale.
  • Design, develop, implement, and deploy enterprise-level, high-availability web application platforms with support from the design team.
  • Create technology infrastructure that functions well at scale and design and improve system architecture.
  • Own the end-to-end design and implementation of real-time data handling at scale, from event ingestion across carrier sources through data normalization, machine-learning-powered risk and estimated-time-of-arrival models, and user-visible recommendations.
  • Build customer-facing features, harden internal tooling, and create alerting and monitoring surfaces that identify issues before customers do.
  • Make architecture trade-offs explicit and defensible.
  • Instrument systems, identify production bottlenecks, and select fixes that remain effective as the system scales.
  • Work according to milestones and software guidelines while following agile principles.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Docker, Git, Elasticsearch, Spark, and continuous integration and continuous delivery.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Portcast launched Cost Management on May 21, 2026, expanding beyond visibility.
  • July 9, 2026 Risk Intelligence updates added more risks, API access, proactive alerts.
  • Weekly port congestion snapshots and Q2 2026 transit reports drive recurring inbound demand.

What critics are saying

  • project44, FourKites, and Shippeo dwarf Portcast’s brand, budget, and carrier connectivity.
  • No public 2026 revenue or profitability disclosure signals weak transparency for buyers and hires.
  • If larger suites bundle ocean visibility, Portcast becomes a feature, not a company.

What makes Portcast unique

  • Portcast owns ocean-specific visibility, using carrier APIs, port systems, and AIS feeds.
  • Its 2026 Gartner mention validates predictive, decision-oriented logistics visibility.
  • Risk Intelligence now ships Container Risks API and proactive alerts.
