Nomic Foundation supports Ethereum’s development platform and open-source software infrastructure. It operates as a non-profit and maintains Hardhat.org, a popular Ethereum development toolchain. Hardhat provides a local testing network, builds and compiles Solidity code, and offers debugging and plugin-based customization to fit developers’ workflows. The foundation funds and maintains tooling that helps developers build on Ethereum, aiming to support the broader ecosystem rather than a single product. It differentiates itself by focusing on OSS infrastructure and ecosystem support, rather than commercial offerings. Its goal is to make Ethereum development easier and more reliable by sustaining essential tools and encouraging open collaboration across the community.

Meet the Nomic team - Teodoro Freund. Nomic Labs is continuing to shine a spotlight on the people building and shaping the Nomic Foundation. Meet Teodoro Freund - Software Engineer on Slang at Nomic Foundation. What is your name, and what do you do at Nomic? Hello, I'm Teodoro Freund and I'm a software engineer at Nomic, working on the Slang Solidity compiler. I've spent most of my time here improving the performance of its Solidity parser. Where are you located? Is that where you are from originally? I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, but I'm originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Who are you outside of work? What do you like to do in your spare time? I love swimming, going on hikes, and meeting up with friends. I try my best to do some surfing and skiing, but Scotland is too cold for one, and not cold enough for the other. I've also represented Argentina twice in the World Stone Skimming Championships. What were you doing professionally before joining Nomic? Before Nomic I spent my time at big companies working on Programming Languages, usually trying to improve type systems or introduce niche features like Effect Handlers. Why did you decide to join the team? I was intrigued by Nomic's mission and culture, during interviews it was clear that people were extremely smart and humble, a powerful combination. The challenge of working on a new compiler and improving my Rust skills were also big pluses. What are the things that you enjoy and appreciate about working at Nomic? I've mentioned the people a lot, so I'll skip that. I really enjoy how thorough and open to discussions its technical reviews are, there's a clear goal from the whole team, and that is to land the best features that Nomic Labs can. I also enjoy the company retreats, even though I've only been to one, I found it a great experience and I'm really looking forward to my second one later this year. Which one of its core values resonates with you the most and why? How do you see it being "used" at Nomic? For me its kindness, the world of software is going through a profound change and kindness is sometimes left behind. At Nomic I see it in every interaction, people are honest and critical, but kindness remains at the core of it. What are you excited about when you think about your future at Nomic? I'm really excited about the impact Nomic Labs can have in the community. The Solidity community seems to be extremely open, both to ideas and people, and I can't wait to see what they will do with its new tools. What is your best tip for staying productive and happy when working remotely? It's very important to create moments of diversion, having a good lunch and being able to step away from my desk is important. I also enjoy having technical discussions with my colleagues, over chat or calls.
In March, Nomic Labs released Hardhat v2.21.0, the first version powered by its brand new Ethereum Development Runtime (EDR, for short) implemented in Rust.
Nomic Labs, creator of popular Ethereum developer tools platform Hardhat, is becoming a nonprofit with the goal of improving the protocol’s developer ecosystem, it announced today.
