Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain health and healing by providing medical services related to diagnosis, treatment, and education to patients and families in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team.
  • Perform first-assist duties and surgical skills and participate in the call rotation, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Contribute to physician effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues, providing relevant information and commentary, recommending options and courses of action, and implementing physician directives.
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, and obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, including X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies, and interpreting test results.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures including administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections.
  • Document patient care services by charting in the patient and department electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Instruct and counsel patients by describing therapeutic regimens, providing normal growth and development information, discussing family planning, counseling on emotional problems of daily living, and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Develop health-care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
