Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Possess a current radiography license as required by the state board where services will be provided; for West Virginia, a Radiography License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board is required.
  • Hold national certification as a Registered Radiography Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists upon hire for West Virginia.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete state and, if applicable, federal criminal background checks as required for regulated areas.
  • Stand for long periods while wearing lead aprons.
  • Lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Differentiate various shades of gray on a black-and-white television monitor or photograph.
  • Communicate with physicians and peers on a professional level.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Acquire, archive, and transmit images to a data storage system.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, operating manuals, product information, and regulations.
  • Interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
  • Solve practical problems with limited standardization of variables.
  • Maintain radiation safety.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance during diagnostic and interventional procedures using sterile and aseptic technique.
  • Acquire imaging and perform post-processing.
  • Provide emergency services while on call.
  • Monitor and interpret hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Assemble supplies using sterile technique for physicians and laboratory personnel entering the laboratory.
  • Maintain patient and unit confidentiality.
  • Prepare the procedural entry site using sterile technique.
  • Continuously monitor patients’ electrocardiograms and blood pressure, document activity accurately and promptly, advise the physician of activity, and provide documentation for the permanent medical record.
  • Participate in the laboratory’s on-call rotation and remain available for emergent procedures 24 hours a day.
  • Act as the laboratory code team by initiating resuscitative measures and using cardiac defibrillators under the direct supervision of the physician in charge.
  • Document procedures, use the established inventory control system, and bill correctly for procedures.
  • Participate in educational and in-service opportunities.
  • Instruct radiography students in the clinical setting on patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and use of accessory devices to obtain radiographic images.
  • Maintain specialization in neuroradiology and vascular interventional radiology procedures.
  • Participate in department inventory management.
  • Check and prepare patients before procedures.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements through computer-based learning, training, in-service education, or competency validation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within one year of hire.
  • One year of experience as an interventional radiologic technologist.
