Requirements
  • Built and scaled real systems from scratch, including APIs, data models, backend services, and production infrastructure.
  • Strong experience designing backend systems and scalable architectures.
  • Active familiarity with emerging artificial intelligence technologies and their application to engineering productivity or product capabilities.
  • Proficiency across the stack, ideally including Python, Django, TypeScript, React, and REST APIs.
  • Ability to design systems with usability, reliability, and operational realities in mind.
  • Ability to turn loosely defined problems into shipped production systems while maintaining strong engineering discipline.
  • At least two years of experience in a software development role.
  • Experience leading technical projects or managing engineering teams, including helping take a product from initial development to scale.
  • Comfort owning the full deployment lifecycle, including continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, containerized deployments, infrastructure as code, and production observability.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and evolution of the backend architecture and core infrastructure, building systems that remain reliable, secure, and compliant as the platform scales nationally.
  • Build and ship end-to-end features across backend and frontend systems, primarily using Python and Django on the backend and TypeScript and React on the frontend.
  • Evaluate and integrate artificial intelligence tools and workflows into development processes and product capabilities to improve operational efficiency, decision-making, or product functionality.
  • Design and maintain deployment pipelines, infrastructure, and observability tools; ensure high availability, system reliability, and data integrity across production systems; and troubleshoot production issues methodically.
  • Collaborate across teams to build user-centric, scalable systems that account for compliance, auditability, and data integrity requirements.
  • Help shape the engineering culture and standards as the team grows; contribute to hiring, onboarding, and mentoring; and help build practices that support a high-performing team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Healthcare or pharmacy exposure and familiarity with regulated operations, such as clinical, pharmacy, payer or pharmacy benefit manager, or analogous environments; alternatively, experience working in regulated or compliance-heavy environments.
  • Early-stage startup experience or similar experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

MediCircle is a for-profit pharmacy that redistributes unopened, unused prescription medications from hospitals to patients at low or no cost. It collects sealed drugs (initially focusing on oral chemotherapies), recertifies them through licensed pharmacists, and ships them by mail after quality checks. Its platform catalogs each donation using GS1 barcodes and National Drug Codes (NDCs) to maintain a secure history and ensure compliance. Unlike many peers, MediCircle integrates with insurance formularies to negotiate discounts and does not charge patients, instead earning revenue by marking down the medication’s market value to insurers. The company also works with legislators to shape policy around pharmaceutical redistribution. Its goal is to reduce pharmaceutical waste, improve access to affordable medications, and create a scalable, compliant supply chain for medication redistribution.

What believers are saying

  • Texas DSHS updated MediCircle's provider listing on May 8, 2026.
  • MediCircle says it accepts medication from all 50 states and ships donation kits.
  • Rhode Island's 2022 committee PDF shows MediCircle helped advance redistribution legislation.

What critics are saying

  • MediCircle cannot accept controlled substances, limiting volume and excluding opioids entirely.
  • Its revenue depends on insurer reimbursement and formulary integration, a slow sales cycle.
  • Any state policy reversal can strand MediCircle's model and collapse donation supply.

What makes MediCircle unique

  • Texas DSHS lists MediCircle as a participating provider with mailed donations in 2026.
  • Brown University says MediCircle raised over $1.2 million after its 2021 prize.
  • MediCircle's recertification workflow and licensed-pharmacy model differentiate it from simple donation bins.
