Requirements
  • An Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Five to ten years of mechanical engineering experience in product design, sheet metal design, manufacturing-focused engineering, product development, custom engineered products, or related engineering disciplines is required.
  • Proficiency in 3D computer-aided design modeling is required, with Autodesk Inventor required and Creo preferred.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, and engineering change documentation is required.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning and product lifecycle management systems used for engineering release and product lifecycle processes is required.
  • Experience with sheet metal product design, preferably within enclosure, rack, data center, telecommunications, or technology infrastructure industries, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and make sound engineering decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and cross-functional stakeholders are required.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical solutions for data center racks, enclosures, and related infrastructure products.
  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings using Autodesk Inventor, with secondary support using PTC Creo and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Translate technical, customer, manufacturing, and business requirements into robust mechanical designs that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, quality, compliance, and schedule objectives.
  • Support projects throughout the product lifecycle, including requirements definition, concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing implementation, production release, and ongoing product support.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define requirements, develop solutions, resolve technical issues, and support project execution.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing engineering, suppliers, operations, and quality teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, production-ready, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability, design-for-assembly, cost optimization, standardization, and product reuse principles to improve product quality, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including CAD models, drawings, bills of material, specifications, and engineering change records within applicable ERP and PLM systems.
  • Support prototype builds, product validation activities, manufacturing implementation, and change management efforts as required.
  • Identify technical risks, resolve design and manufacturing challenges, and implement solutions that support project objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to process improvements, design standardization efforts, and lessons-learned activities that improve execution quality and support future product development.

  • Experience with automation, rule-based design, scripting, or artificial-intelligence-assisted engineering tools such as iLogic, Python, C#, C++, or similar technologies is preferred.

Billionaire-led funds pile into Vertiv and Equinix as AI data center demand surges

Billionaire-led hedge funds increased their holdings in two AI data centre stocks during the second quarter, according to analysis of over 900 funds. Vertiv Holdings attracted 32 billionaire-led funds, up from 28 in the first quarter. Equinix had 27 such funds holding stakes, up from 26. Vertiv manufactures equipment for data centres. In Q2, revenue rose 24% year over year, whilst adjusted operating margin improved to 22.6%. Adjusted earnings per share increased 60%. The company benefits from an industry shift towards 800-volt DC power systems, which reduce energy waste and cooling costs. Vertiv's equipment supports this transition, allowing Nvidia racks to connect directly. The International Energy Agency projects global data centre electricity use will roughly double from 485 TWh in 2025 to about 950 TWh in 2030.

Data centre giant Vertiv acquires US microgrid specialist in $1.45bn cash deal. 2 minutes read Vertiv has agreed to acquire UtilityInnovation Group, a US microgrid and power systems firm, for approximately $1.45 billion in cash, in a deal aimed at helping data centre operators secure power faster as grid constraints slow AI infrastructure rollouts globally. The New York-listed critical infrastructure firm said the acquisition, announced on September 2, carries additional consideration of up to $1.15 billion tied to earnings targets over the next 12 and 24 months. At the base purchase price, the deal values UIG at roughly 13 times its expected 2027 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, a multiple Vertiv said would fall significantly if the full earnout is paid. The company expects the transaction to add to its adjusted earnings per share within the first year of completion. UIG, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, designs microgrid controls, onsite power generation systems and behind-the-meter architecture for data centres, with additional operations in Dublin, Ireland, and manufacturing sites in North Carolina and New Jersey. The acquisition extends Vertiv's power and cooling portfolio upstream from the data centre itself to the point where it connects to the electricity grid, adding capabilities in onsite generation, energy storage orchestration and microgrid-specific switchgear. "For AI data centre operators, competitive advantage increasingly depends on how quickly they can move from site selection to first token," said Vertiv chief executive Gio Albertazzi. He said the addition of UIG's technology would allow the company to support grid-connected sites, bridge-to-grid deployments and fully islanded sites running on their own power generation, without tying customers to a single energy technology or supplier. UIG founder and chief executive Sidney Hinton said the company was built to solve power challenges for data centre operators through flexible, technology-agnostic designs, adding that Vertiv's scale and service network made it a strong fit for the business he had built. Power availability has become one of the biggest bottlenecks in data centre expansion as AI workloads drive unprecedented demand for electricity, pushing power architecture decisions earlier into the site-planning process. Vertiv said UIG's behind-the-meter design work typically begins before equipment is even selected, allowing the combined company to help shape a site's power blueprint from the outset rather than retrofitting capacity later. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. J.P. Morgan Securities is advising Vertiv on the transaction, with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney serving as legal counsel. Morgan Stanley is advising UIG, with Davis Polk & Wardwell as its legal counsel.
