Requirements
  • A high school diploma and two years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment or field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Experience in general maintenance and repair in institutional, commercial, or industrial settings.
  • Ability to perform electrical maintenance and repair for 120- and 277-volt systems.
  • Ability to perform plumbing maintenance and repair, including restroom, laboratory, kitchen, flushometer, faucet, supply, and drain work.
  • Ability to perform carpentry maintenance and repair, including doors, door hardware, flooring, suspended ceilings, ceiling tiles, drywall, and paint touch-up.
  • Ability to troubleshoot elevator door problems at a basic level.
  • Ability to use electronic work-order systems, including TMA.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and equipment related to the essential duties.
  • Ability to maintain daily written or electronic logs and records using computers or tablets.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and single-person lifts up to 40 feet.
  • Ability to stand, lift, bend, stoop, and kneel while performing maintenance work.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and a respirator.
  • Ability to work within guidelines, prioritize assignments, and contribute in a team environment.
  • Current eligibility to legally work in the United States.
  • A valid Arizona Class D or higher driver's license upon employment, an acceptable driving record, and maintenance of the license throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment respiratory clearance questionnaire and respirator fit test.
  • Availability for a rotating on-call or standby schedule and emergency response, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance of university buildings.
  • Maintain and repair lighting, ballasts, lighting switches, receptacles, sockets, and diffusers.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, volt detectors, and circuit tracers.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing in public restrooms, laboratories, kitchens, and similar facilities.
  • Maintain and rebuild water-closet and urinal flushometers and various faucets and under-sink supplies.
  • Clear drain clogs and stoppages.
  • Maintain public-restroom toilet and urinal partitions and replace related partition hardware.
  • Maintain and adjust automatic door closers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and replace interior and exterior door hardware, weather stripping, smoke seals, and door sweeps.
  • Repair and replace diverse types of flooring.
  • Maintain and replace damaged suspended ceiling systems and ceiling tiles.
  • Perform small drywall repairs and paint touch-up of drywall repairs.
  • Respond first to elevator trouble calls and perform basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems.
  • Use the TMA electronic work-order system to respond to maintenance requests.
  • Maintain daily logs and records using computers or tablets.
  • Interact with customers and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work at other ASU campus locations when required by program or department needs.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call or standby schedule and respond to emergencies during nights, weekends, and holidays.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of general maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience maintaining facilities in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing facilities, or commercial or industrial settings.
  • Experience performing electrical maintenance and repair in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing facilities, or commercial or industrial settings.
  • Experience with 120- and 277-volt electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Experience performing plumbing maintenance and repair in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing facilities, or commercial or industrial settings.
  • Experience performing carpentry maintenance and repair in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing facilities, or commercial or industrial settings.
  • Experience using TMA electronic work-order systems in response to maintenance requests.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills to perform the essential functions.
