JPMorgan, Santander back $1.4B loan for Drax solar expansion

UK energy company Drax has secured a £1.1 billion loan from JPMorgan and Santander to finance its solar energy expansion. The deal marks a significant institutional investment in renewable energy as the UK aims for 70% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The financing will support Drax's diversification into solar power and increase its renewable generation capacity. The involvement of major banks reflects growing institutional interest in sustainable projects, driven by environmental, social, and governance criteria in investment decisions. Global renewable energy investments have reached record levels, with the solar market projected to exceed $200 billion annually by 2025. The deal signals confidence in solar energy's financial viability and may encourage further banking sector investments in renewable projects.
