Requirements
  • Knowledge of advanced layout, use of Simon forms, layout of anchor bolts, material takeoff from drawings, and safety requirements for building work.
  • Must learn and understand work-related safety hazards and safely and effectively use or operate related tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive use of hands, arms, and legs; maintain hand-eye coordination; and communicate by hearing, comprehending, and speaking to perform work safely.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary to heavy work and use hand and power tools powered by electricity, gas, or pneumatics.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on steel or wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Must frequently use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
  • Must be able to perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, overhead reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, and loose or soft sand; may be required to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with management and supervisors.
  • Must have reading and writing comprehension to give and receive directions for work and safety policies.
  • Must be able to use math and complete calculations, work at various tempos, concentrate amid distractions, make decisions, and observe and remember details.
Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints and sketches, and complete reports.
  • Instruct laborers and other construction trade helpers.
  • Build and set forms, use a level instrument, tie rebar, build scaffolding, perform finish carpentry, read a tape measure or ruler, set screeds, install batter boards, and operate hand and power tools.
  • Inspect areas and conduct repairs or maintenance.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.
  • Design, construct, erect, install, and repair structures and other items made of wood, plywood, and wallboard using pneumatic and electric power tools.
  • Fasten materials together with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives, and perform a final accuracy check of completed work.
  • Work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.
