About the company

Journal Technologies provides case management software for the justice system. Its flagship product, eCourt, is a configurable, cloud-based platform used by courts, prosecutors, public defenders, and probation agencies to manage cases, workflows, and related data. The software is delivered as a service through licensing and ongoing support, making it easier for government and legal organizations to adopt and maintain. Unlike broad commercial software, Journal Technologies targets a niche with specialized legal workflows and secure government-grade compliance, offering tailored configurations for various justice system roles. The company's goal is to improve efficiency, collaboration, and transparency in public legal processes by providing scalable, service-based software that aligns with the unique needs of court systems and related agencies.

What believers are saying

  • Journal Technologies revenue rose 12% in Q1 fiscal 2026 and 21% year-to-date.
  • Austin authorized up to $3.55 million for Journal Technologies case-management software and services.
  • Sacramento and Saipan both expanded or reviewed eCourt in 2026, validating deployments.

What critics are saying

  • Austin’s June 8, 2026 contract expiration shows renewal risk and budget scrutiny.
  • Courts face years-long replacements, so a failed migration at Sacramento or Austin would damage trust.
  • Daily Journal’s Journal Technologies revenue concentration makes any large state loss existential.

What makes Journal Technologies unique

  • eCourt spans courts, prosecutors, defenders, and probation on one configurable workflow platform.
  • Journal Technologies serves about 37 states and international agencies, giving it entrenched justice-system reach.
  • Its eFile-it, ePay-it, eProsecutor, and eDefender stack embeds daily operational switching costs.
