What believers are saying

  • June 2025 tariffs and July 2026 TRQ rules reduced imports and lifted Europe margins.
  • Dunkirk's €1.3 billion EAF and Gijón capacity add higher-value, lower-carbon output.
  • 2Q 2026 EBITDA reached $2.1 billion, showing pricing power and operational recovery.

What critics are saying

  • September 2026 missile strikes shuttered Kryvyi Rih, triggering a roughly $1 billion impairment.
  • Italy litigation over ADI demands up to €7.0 billion and distracts management.
  • Prolonged European demand weakness and imports can erase returns, forcing closures and asset writedowns.

What makes ArcelorMittal unique

  • ArcelorMittal integrates mining, steelmaking, and downstream finishing across global markets.
  • XCarb and 2026 EAF investments make decarbonization a commercial product, not branding.
  • European scale plus automotive-grade electrical steels create customer switching costs and pricing power.
